Good luck 6, NC, and LF! It's time for some antlers to hit the ground! I've got faith in yall! Its supposed to be ridiculously hot here through Monday. Temps well into the 80's. But Tuesday, and I'm off , is supposed to have highs in the 60's and the morning is supposed to be low 40's. I think I may try to slip into my turnip plot and sit it until noon or so.
Well guys been extreamly slow for deer sightings for me. I do have a lot of hope for the rut though. I have off from Nov 1-9 and will be doing nothing but bowhunting so can't wait to get up to the cabin. It has not been hunted since early Oct.
It's literally been in the mid 80's here since Friday! This is ridiculous! I'm off until Wednesday, but I don't see myself sweating up a spot this close to November. I haven't seen any daylight movement on cam and hardly any movement at all over the last week. Bring on the cold weather!!!!
I had a pretty exciting hunt last night. The night started with two doe fawns that walked directly down wind of my stand. They hung out for a while and took a drink from the small pond near my stand. I'm pretty sure these are the two fawns that were with the doe I shot a few weeks ago. I had a 110" ish 8 point chasing some does in some thicket about 100 yards from me. At first glance I thought he was bigger than he actually was. I have him a single grunt and he started my way. A few minutes later he came up to the small pond that is 40 yards from my stand to get a drink. He was just big enough to get the blood pumping, but just not a shooter. After the 8 point encounter I had a smaller forkhorn walk within 10 yards of my stand to drink from the pond. I'm really looking forward to the next couple weeks here. This weekend the temperatures are forecasted to drop and historically this is the timeframe that I have seen some of the biggest bucks on the property.
Well I went and pulled some cards yesterday at noon knowing I won't be hunting anytime soon...grabbed me a lil snack for the ride home. If only I'd have brought some salt haha On a negative note the cams showed continued night time movement from the mature deer and some daylight activity from the younger guys. On the positive side my turnip plot is absolutely tore up with scrapes. I've seen all my shooters hit these on cam, I just need a cold day for some cruising to take place and I think my chances are good
Only a few days till I get serious. I leave for the Cabin Friday night for a weeks long hunt. Woo hoo.
Same here Jeff but it all changes Thursday...first chance of rain in 3 weeks and high temps go from mid 80's to low 60's and lows in 30's...Not ideal but defintely better...
2 More Shifts For Me Had snow up here while I'm working for the last 2 days and my wife said it started snowing there yesterday. Temps are still looking good for the month of November with the temps not pushing -20 which is a real treat. Normalls for November could mean -30 to -40 c. Hopefully I can get in a stand this weekend if I get everything cleaned up at home.Getting the fever to be out side. November our team is going to hit it hard. Getting excited to try my new Winter white Camo out By Predator, bottom 1/2 & realtree winter white for the uppers. I want to see those deer walk right by me and not see a thing. HaHaHa Rocky
Good Deal Rocky!! I think we are going to have the best weather for rutting activity and late season hunting than we have had in a few years....who knows though...i was in shorts and t shirts in parts of December and January last year
Well team....I shot a buck tonight. He's big, I'm guessing 150" + or - 5". Everything happened very fast and ended up having to shoot out of a small window behind my tree where I wasn't expecting a deer to come from. Long story short, he presented me with a beautiful 23 yard quartered away shot, I released and my top limb hit my bow hanger.... He mule kicked and ran off to about 55-60 yards. I could only see his neck and rack as his body was blocked behind brush and an oak tree. I watched him until I couldn't see on account of darkness. He stayed in that same place just turning his head side to side. I waited 30 mins until it was completely dark and I no longer heard deer moving. I got out of the tree. Didn't hear anything blow or run off. I didn't even go look at the arrow because the woods are very loud right now. I called out of work for tomorrow and plan to go look at the arrow and the last spot I saw him at around 10:00 AM. That will be about 15-16 hours after the shot. Of course my POS nocturnal didn't light up so I can't tell if I was back or high or low or if I even hit him. He acted hit....this is a pretty sickening feeling.
Dang Jeff!!! Just trust your abilities and equipment and say to yourself that you made a good shot. That is the first negative I have heard about the nocturnals lighted nock..they are none better imo...You definitely did the right thing by leaving...try,as hard as it will be, to get a good nights sleep and pick up the trail in the a.m. I will be hoping and praying for a quick recovery in the morning...
