Did one last scouting trip today...I saw 9 dove hunters and little deer sign, except a fawn mauled by yotes. I proceeded to another spot and saw a doe qnd fawn.

End of day sitting over at the neighbors around a fire. The kids asked for help with the rope swing and I rolled an ankle. I know I've probably blow 2 ligaments based on the intense pain in either side of the ankle. This sucks!

Went out on Mon. Hot as hell. Only saw a doe with two fawns and one young 4 pointer. Even the deer were smart enough to stay out of the sun yesterday!!!

man....getting so excited!! im envious of yall who are already huntin, and happy for you as well! I have 11 more days here in Missouri to go...

ive packed and repacked my hunting pack like five times already. washed all my clothes......repacked again!! im driving my wife absolutely nuts. all I can talk about is where im goin to sit opening morning.....what to do if the wind is wrong....where to sit in the evening.....and so on and so forth!

ive pretty much made up my mind that im only going for a buck until it cools off in a month or two. I can almost guarantee a doe any time, and I don't wanna risk the meat spoiling if I cant find the deer right away.

    so......like I said...IM SO FLIPPIN READY!

or should that be Rippin Ready? as in Scooby?

has anyone ever used vanilla extract as an early season attractant? if so, how did it work?

I've used vanilla before on my backyard deer, it wasn't real effective...think of it more as a curiousity scent. It held them there for a while. Corn or PB are much more preferred.

For some reason they also seem to like our watermelon rinds too...go figure. I just threw some more out tonight...if they show while its still light I'll snap a pic...
