I’ve got 26 days till opening morning! I might be able to get a stand and my feeder out on the 19th but I’ve gotta Carry everything back into the spot. So it’ll take me a couple hours but I should be able to get it done, hopefully I can get some help from the land owners sons! I’m getting so pumped!

Thing are finally starting to cool down a bit! It was 69 degrees here this morning! High of 73 on Saturday and Monday night is supposed to be 58! I just wish it was about 20 degrees cooler at night because the ticks are super bad here. I ended up getting about 80 seed ticks off of me just from doing some scouting for a camping trip with the youth pastor.

Caleb how essential is getting that feeder up? I’m imaging it being pretty helpful? I’m guessing a concentrated food source like that would get more attention down there then up here.

Yes. It definitely ups my odds a lot because we don’t have any crop fields down here like I had in Wisconsin. its the only concentrated food source I have, and it sorta gets the deer coming in whenever the feeder goes off. I would just put out a bag of corn but I’ve had a group of bucks go through and eat a 50 pound bag of corn in one night.

That’s what I figured. Well hopefully you can get it out there soon.
There is so much food up here for them it is a waste of time right now. I’m guessing my next card pull I will have very little action in the bean fields and more in the woods hitting the acorns.
Acorn crop looked fair as of a few weeks ago.

I should be able to get it up before season opens. It’s a bit hard to grow crops here because of the rocky soil. My buddy that I bear hunt with was complaining about the acorn crop has been crazy because the bears aren’t hitting the bear baits. I haven’t been able to get in the woods because of ticks, so I have no idea what the acorn crop is like.

Ticks suck. Thankfully there aren’t a major problem in my area. I still check myself every time I go out but it has been years since I found one.

Acorns should be plentiful where I’m at in south eastern pa. I really have never even thought of baiting deer here. The farm I hunt is all soybeans and corn that the farmer leaves stand until late in the season then he picks the whole ear off so it needs to be good and dry. Usually standing until middle of November. The timber is mainly oak trees as well so food everywhere. Last year there were so many acorns it was hard to walk at some spots.

We can't bait or use minerals here. I plant a few small plots but there is so much agriculture here, it doesn't help until the late season.

We can bait in OH but it is a waste of time until late season. I have done a few small kill plots in the past and they were largely ignored until the late season. I changed them over to clover and didn’t even bother spraying them this year. There is just so much food for them here.
I will run a feeder late season and until spring to supplement them.

There is a bill waiting to be signed by our governor to allow supplemental feeding and minerals. I don't think baiting will be allowed during season....if he signs it. Election year and all that goes with it, many people don't think he will sign it. It's been a controversial topic here.

I bet. I have mixed feelings about it. The majority of my hunting experience is from NY where baiting wasn't allowed. But in my experience it doesn't have any influence on the deer until the late season. Then it can be a very powerful attractant.

Thanks! I’m very surprised that he’s already hard horned! I know there’s bigger bucks out here, I got some buck juice which smells a lot, a good salt block and some turnip seeds! Hopefully I can get the bigger bucks to come in with all that stuff!

We got nearly 7 inches of rain today, which means Tuesday's food plots I planted are probably shot lol. I took advantage of the rain to get all my gear cleaned up, new batteries installed and my day pack loaded. Touched up my knife as well. Boring dreary day, but did get a few things accomplished.

I'm in Alabama this weekend for visitation with my daughter. Plan on getting everything I need setup next week. Going to Ohio next weekend to pick up some stuff for the house and camping out while there

That was my first thought as well! I guess we are getting close. Beans fields are starting to yellow and it is definitely cool here tonight. Forecast is for rain all day tomorrow. I should suck it up and put the rain gear on and trim some lanes and check a few cards...
