Sorry about checking out for a couple days there guys, I was chasing the muskies around on Mille Lacs and I failed miserably.. My stealth cam crapped out on me and I finally got a replacement shipped in yesterday so I went straight to my new hunting property in Forest Lake and got it in a tree. Im excited to see what shows up on it. I had hung the stealth cam up a few weeks ago and let it sit for 13 days and when I went to check it the batteries where dead and they died within a day and a half!! I was pretty pissed so I brought it home and did a little test and the same thing happened, it didn't last two days and that was with it not even taking pics! Anyway the one day that it was working in the field I got a lot of pictures of does and fawns and a couple smaller bucks so I am hoping a big boy shows up. there is a strip of woods that is surrounded by corn and alfalfa except for the north end, which has a small creek running along it and then opens up into a smaller swamp area and then leads into a bigger section of woods. I had figured most of the deer in early season would be coming from the corn to the alfalfa and when walked the property for the first time there where some really nice funnel areas on the north end close to the creek going between the alfalfa and corn.. there are a couple trees that would cover both those funnels and would allow for a pretty decent shot if something was walking the alfalfa edge.. Once the corn comes out there are a lot of nice bedding areas that a few deer where already using even with the corn still standing so I have high hopes for this new spot. The other spot I hunt has a lot of big deer in the area, I see them all the time when Im driving by or perched up scouting with the spotting scope. The only downfall to this spot is the land owner does not believe in trail cams so I have to do all the scouting with the binos or spotting scope which isn't a huge deal because there is a real high area just the the south that I can park at with the truck and see most the the 100 acres, there are three pockets of woods surrounded by alfalfa so its easy to scout looking threw the glass. If no one else wants the captain role then I would volunteer for it. I was thinking Pat was going to step in and want it , but if he doesn't want it and no one else feels like volunteering for it then I don't have a problem with doing it. Those are some nice deer your posting up Jarod, I hope you get to wrap your hands around that one on your Moultrie!
This is pretty nice lookin 10 I got on camera last week, these pictures our taken facing out of the woodlot i hunt in/around and just to the right of the flash area is my house about 250 yrds across the field. Pretty sure that this one and the one before are different deer, this guy looks to have atleast 12 on him possibly more, has some character And now this guy is my #1 hitlist deer! I believe he is a 10 with solid g2's and g3's with pretty good mass it looks. Would be easily my largest deer to date! Really hoping to get a shot at this guy ! And then there is this one a average 8 or a big 6 havent decided if I would give him a thunderhead to the lungs or not if he happens to walk by. I plan on putting in my final plot tomorrow afternoon (supposed to get loads of rain this weekend from Isaac) planting a small winter peas and wheat plot. In this same area I have sunflowers that the deer have already decimated and my two clover kill plots are toast due to our drought so I'm hoping that this can be my honeyhole.
Jake those are some good looking trail cam pics man! sounds like you have put fourth the effort and that should pay off for you this fall. Guys we really should concentrate on a team name. I have a buddy who will make us a sweet logo but he has to know the team name first. I threw out a few on a previous post and there where some thrown out by a couple others as well. If you have any ideas just throw it out there. Lets shoot for Sunday afternoon at the latest to decide on a name, that way my buddy can make up a few logos before Monday for us to choose from.
Team.. >Boone time >Stick it to 'em >perched up >rack stackers >extreme force >deadly force >arrow slingers >20 yards down wind >downwind >death zone >Boone stalkers >buck stalkers >rack em and stack em >Boone eliminators >buck eliminators >buckinators
I was down all last weekend hanging stands. We’ll be hunting the Ohio opener since it comes in the Saturday before Michigan’s. Nice bucks by the way. We were a bit disappointed with the t-cam pics we got. All we had was two shooters and no sign of Archie. I’m good with any name you guys come up with.
i forgot who but someone had american stickers which i thought was pretty good. i like rack stackers and arrow slingers too though.
I'm good with whatever name and whoever that wants to be captain. Heading to check cameras this weekend. Hopefully I'll have some good pictures to post when I get back.
I hunt the most in Pa (Bow statewide opens Sept 29th) I also hunt in Va in Front Royal (on my Father In Laws property) and in Md on a Friends property in Flintstone...but I don't go out in Va or Md until late Oct early Nov...as far as Pa is concerned I take my 6yr old Son out with me as soon as it opens..so hopefully I get 1 down soon in the season !!!!!!
Ash welcome bud.. what do you want us to call you, or is Ash fine with you? Cav good luck with the cam check. I am excited to hear what showed up! my favorites so far are American Stickers, Rib splitters and Rack attack.
just got the trail cam back out today. now just wait and pray. so Kranz are you the captain? you are the only one that has volunteered, which is fine by me, but we havent decided on anything yet. my vote is american stickers.
