its been slow for me still here. ive been seeing some fresh rubs and scrapes but i belive most of it is being done at night because of these 80+ degree temps we are having. Friday a big cold front is coming through that will drop temps down to highs around 50. so hopefully this weekend the bucks will be on the move.

Had great day and evening in the woods. It started as i got to my stand and i saw another hunter in a tree 7 yards away. i didnt notice him / her until i sat down and waited for day to break. As I was sitting there it felt like i was being watched, then are eyes meet. I was amazed that he didn't fly away. Oh by the way the other hunter was an OWL. He / She had a better day than I. He killed something and i didn't. As we waited for day break, i heard some leaves russell then i saw a little critter move. As i watched in awh the owl swoped down and claimed his prize a Mouse or a chippy not sure. It wasn't day break just yet. After he pounce on his prey he sat on the ground for 10 -15 seconds and then flew away. the critter was in his claws as he flew away. What a cool day.

I wanted to rattle, but i had to wait for the owl to leave. so after the owl left i rattled. 10 minutes later a lone doe came in and i looked hard for something trailing her but nothing. No Buttons so i know it was a doe. ( BINNOS)
The rest of the morning was slow. got down at 11 am and went home for lunch. 430pm found me back in the tree as it was cooling off when i rattled and grunted and i had 2 buck come in. The little 8 pt walked to about 28 - 30 yards away. Thi heard a snort wheezen he walked over to the other buck not sure on the size 4 pt or and 8 pt???? about the same body size of the first 8 pt. I heard the buck snort wheeze to the other, that was pretty cool also.

    Temp are dropping to night.

My dautgher has a cross country meet (Districts) in the am. i'll be out in the eveing if things go right.

    GOOD LUCK GUYS

Sweet deal shark. I had something similar to that only my head was what the owl wanted for dinner! well not quite but the owl did not miss my head by three feet.

I was out this evening and had a little buck come in and that was it. When I was leaving deer where snorting at me from every direction. I zigged when every deer in the woods sagged! I have a bunch of homework I have to get done in the morning and then its back to the woods with my father for the evening.

Well its 1 more in hunt in the am 10/31/12, then its off to a friends property 1 1/2 Hrs south of me. My friend has several shooter bucks running around. It will be a good time with him. There is 2 different 200 acres plots. three of us will be on the 2 plots. suppose to be a 12 pt and 2 -10 pts and 2 good 8 pts. I should have cell signal there so i should be able to get on while in the stand. If no luck i'll be back to the farm on SAturday am.

should be a great time with my buddy and his friend.

we need to take down some bucks

shark and pat.. good luck guys!

There where some pretty interesting things going on in the woods tonight for me. Three does showed up straight down wind about 150 yards away and out of the blue took off running straight for me and ended up under my tree. They where in the middle of some picked beans and from what I could see nothing was around to spook them. I had no idea what was going on!
Also saw one of the mature bucks that I had watched all summer. On my way into the tree I saw a couple fresh rubs and sure enough he steps out of a bedding area well before sunset at about 70 yards and heads the other way! It was pretty windy so I did not even try to grunt him my way.

WI Buck down but no points ...

What a crazy night about 510 I see a pretty good 10 point buck headed right for me he gets to 15 yards and turns broadside and stops I settle the pin and let it go and I was shocked to see it hit a bit low he jumped and went about 10 yards and stops so I reload and slide another one in him at a hard quartering away angle he then trots a little ways and beds down. I sit down to catch my breath and wait an hour before sneaking out. Get back to the cabin and call for help on a recovery. In the mean time my mom finds a note from the neighbor saying he also shot a 10 point. We have pretty good neighbors and I was excited for the chance at a double recovery and some harvest photos. I gave the neighbor a call and he and his buddy came over and we talked about what went down.

They decided to go track his buck while I waited a bit for my buddies to get here. it had been about 3 hours since my shots. Well we get to the stand and see flashlights and one of my arrows standing up in the mud so we meet back up with the neighbor and I was shocked to hear we had shot the same buck and he was not where I watched him lay down. We tracked him for about 150 yards only to have him cross the creek and go back onto their land we crossed (yes the water is cold) and tracked another 25 yards then decided to gamble on the coyotes not getting him and backed out.

We sat a few hours in the AM then met back up to take a look. It didn't take long for my dad to find him in the creek of course. He had died about 10 yards from where I watched him bed down. So back in the creek we go for the second day in a row and it was still cold and he happen to be hung up surrounded by waist deep water.

Then the discussion began of whose buck it was well the normal argument is it's mine but it did not go this way we argued that he drew first blood and he argued that more than likely I had killed him. Turned out he had shot him at 430 and I shot him at 510.

In the end it was one of the craziest things I have ever been a part of. I ended up talking him into taking the buck because he did draw first blood and there is no way to determine the buck would not have died because of his shot which like my first shot was just a touch low also. One happy 22 year old kid and another happy 42 year old kid.

Update on the creek buck ... He was killable on Oct 17 and again on Oct 26 as he strolled by 2 of my stands in the broad daylight. I can't tell you how hard it has been being 10 hours away from this buck. I had him at 18 yards Wednesday afternoon with no shot ...

Shot a buck on Sunday morning. I was hunting on a steep ridge and he was broadside, uphill & level with me at 8 yards. Not as big as last year, but a decent two year old. I have spent too much time away from my 18 month old son by hunting every weekend. Too hard to pass up. Used a Spitfire for the first time and he only went 25 yards, the amount of blood was incredible. I'll measure and post soon, but I'm guessing he is only around 80".

Heading up this weekend to try for another 50pts. I've been seeing almost all bucks, so I'm hoping the chasing slows down so I can get a shot.

Sweet deal guys!! congrats Cav, and sweet story Pat.

Going into the weekend I was pumped! hunted Tuesday evening last week and saw some good daytime movement. I don't know what happened but I had a 2 day lull where I did not see much of anything other then a doe I saw get spooked by the landowner on the neighboring property. Sunday morning rolls around and I pass on a pretty impressive six 120" ish If he had some more mass and taller brows it would have been hard to pass. Tall and Wide as all get out, minus the brows. Then sunday evening does where moving really early and I could hear a lot of movement in the oak trees about 100 yards away, I was sitting in a funnel of pines that leeds from those oaks to a cut bean field, corn field, and pumpkin patch.

I told myself I was not going to shoot any does until after the rut but the perfect scenario happened! I am hunting only about 70 or 80 yards from a dirt road and I can see through the pines and birch trees most the way to the road. A doe showed up and stuck around for a good 10 mins. I didn't want to shoot her on the chance a buck was going to cross the road and come in behind her it was super calm and a bow might just be enough noise at 100 yards to make him wait till dark or go around me. The doe was giving me broadside shots at thirty yards, then again at 25 and then again at 20. I look up and see a big Dodge with a trailer coming down the dirt road, and the trailer is making a lot of noise. As the truck is getting closer I decided that if she was still broadside when the trailer was going by me then I would take the shot and the trailer would cover any noise made from my bow to any of the deer that where about to cross the road. sure enough she stayed broadside so I drew back waited until the trailer was going over the railroad tracks banging and rattling like crazy and let the arrow fly. hopefully the couple day lull of buck movement will pick back up this week and into next weekend temps are suppose to drop again and some rain/snowy weather is a big possibility for next weekend. I am planning for at least one possibly two evening hunts this week and probably all day sits friday, saturday and sunday next weekend. Good luck to everyone this November!
