Congrats, Sooner... he's a beauty! Awesome job to the whole family; that sounds like a very special day for your wife and daughter.
Thanks Jake, Will, Greg ... it was a special day indeed. Wife shot her's 1 hour after I scored. It's something our family will cherish for a long time. Good luck to all the guys on our team still hunting!
Happy Holidays team! http://sendables.jibjab.com/view/dZSTFPhZwzPLrWNE Side note we got 3-4 inches of snow and counting so I am heading out about 1PM. T
Good luck Tony. It'd be cool to hunt with snow on the ground. Living in Oklahoma, I'm lucky to get to do it once a year.
Thanks Crick and PA. I rushed them to the taxi before I could get a good measurement. I rough scored both and came up with close to 140 on mine and close to 130 on the wifes. Neither were going to be entered in any contest so I didn't bother getting too exact about it. The one I got is nice (actually very nice for me), but I had a run-in with his daddy or granddaddy on November 14 and November 15 and the image of him in my mind still haunts me. He looked alot like his son but much, much more massive and he may have had another tine or two. This is my first full season hunting this lease and it was alot of fun. It's just on the Oklahoma side of Sumner County, Kansas so yes, there's some big bucks around there. Downside is that it's 3 hours from the house and diesel has been hovering around $3/gal lately, so it's been a fairly expensive season. One of them deals where you don't want to add up all the costs because it'll make you puke Tony, how'd the snow treat you? Shane
Nice Bucks Sooner! I was just down in that area pheasant hunting last weekend, we were hunting in the Burlington - Wakita area. We saw lots of deer and 2-3 really nice bucks while hunting, looked like big buck country to me. I've been down there a few times now and it seemed like the deer numbers were higher than years past, hopefully that bodes well for your lease.
Thanks Dren, yeah I know the area you're talking about, in fact, there's a little store with a walk-in cooler in Wakita where we hang our deer while we're still hunting :tu There's quite a few birds around there. You weren't camping at a RV park in South Haven last weekend by chance? I ask b/c there were alot of bird hunters parked around us.
Nope wasn't us in the RV park, we stayed near Burlington. There are a lot of birds in that area in fact I enjoy pheasant hunting there more than I do in South Dakota. It is more challenging, you have to work a little more for your shots.
Hey Crick! Santa left you a message! http://www.portablenorthpole.tv/watch/guest/PKtEPK3Rtm-b5hRb2KtBkg
You dont even want to know how many Santa videos went out LOL! MY daughter loves them and thinks it is really a message from him. I also took some bird sead and glitter and made a little sign saying it was deer food for Santas deer. She spread it out on the sidewalk then I took a broom stick and poked holes in the snow to look like deer prints. Then I took a box of raisens and dumped them on the sidewalk. I wrote back to my daughter as if I was santa saying I am sorry but Rudolph pooped on the sidewalk. My daughter has talked about that for th past two years! Funny stuff and something you will never forget!
Heading out for some serious cold .... Have had good luck hunting a wild blackberry thicket down in a gulley on our little 15 acres, when it gets real cold like this and they have no choice but to move and eat. It seems like it's always my last chance to take advantage of the natural stuff left on our property. Corn and beans are obliterated. Hopefully something happens.
