Ah, you guys are doing fine. I just popped in to give ya'll a little encouragement. From the sound of things, deer are starting to chase here and there. That's a good thing! If history repeats itself, more deer will be dirt napping in the next few weeks! I was telling Preacher Tony, "I'm not sure what's worse-having a late start to your season, or having your season over by the end of Septemeber". What I would give to be able to sit in a tree mornings and evenings...I suffice myself with out of state weekends!

Best wishes team 20! Knock em dead!

Well team, im a little bummed. I shot a Doe yesterday evening at 20 yards broadside. After the shot she ran about 40 yards then for the next 40 minutes she would take a few steps and stop. I could see the exit hole in her arm pit and it was just covered in blood as well as her whole leg, and I couldnt figure out why she had not went down. In my head I seen the arrow enter behind the shoulder on the lower 1/3 of her body. I just knew she was dead this morning, but as im almost there this morning, Im driving past an old cemetary on a hill just 200 yards from the shot spot. It has the only white oaks in the area and there she was with her fawn feeding on acorns  I stopped, glassed her at about 50 yards and confirmed the entry hole in her side. It was tight against the crease and had dried blood all the way down to the white on her belly  I just dont get it, I hit where I wanted to, seen the exit hole and there she is fresh as a daisy eating acorns. The only thing I can fathom is a hit in the lower lung and missing the other. She seems to be fine and im glad of that. I took this evening off to spend some more time with my 11 year old, after all were buds :tu: Ill be out first thing in the morning, but have to go back to work Sat-tues, then im off for 14 days of non stop hunting  good luck guys, hope your having fun this season!

Hey you laugh, but I do indeed carry both my bow and gun during gun seasons. I'm always afraid a) I'll have an easy shot and not have my bow with me or b) a long shot and and not have my gun with me. Last year I killed a nice buck with my gun and while I was dragging him out I hear another deer coming so I drop everything and grab my bow. As I come to full draw the deer came in my opening but he was little so I let down. Now that would have been awesome had it worked out :tu:

Hey Crick, sorry to hear about your troubles, that sounds like a strange deal, sounds like you were all around the heart. Well good luck to you when you make it back out again :D

Crick that blows! I will tell you my story. I shot a nice wide 6 pointer and he had blood running down the the whole leg from the entry at the top of shoulder. I did not get a pass through and the arrow was still in him. I was tracking him and I jumped him. Then he went into a nature park so I put my bow back in the truck so that I did not have it on the property. We can track our deer on there but no hunting. I ended up jumping him a second time. I followed him very slow but kept him in eyesight with my binos. The next thing I know is a monster 8 came running into the picture and T-boned my 6 pointer. The 6 went into the air and down it went on the arrow. The arrow snapped off and then the buck went running to a creek. The buck then crossed the creek to never let me see him again. This year my buddy said that he shot him and he also lost him. He is still a wide 6 but has more mass. He hit him really high and not sure if he got vitals or not! He hunts south of me 1/4 of a mile. I think that is a robot deer from IDNR! LOL

I was out tonight, not much action. VERY hot and the farmer was taking the beans out of the field next to me. Not sure what he was doing but he was sure going slow and making a TON of noise. A week from now the highs are in the 50's. So let the REAL hunting begin! :D

thanks, that makes me feel better! i really want to shoot 1 with my bow, but like i said there's not a lot of deer here and it's public land with extreme pressure, if you get any buck you have done well... just think if i lost my 1 chance at a buck this year because he was at 40 yards i'd feel real bad.
so i'll do just that..take both gun and bow to the stand!

Dale, its VERY rare when you put an arrow where you want to that you don't recover the deer inside of 100 yards... VERY.

I realize you're on a larger forum that is comprised of all sorts of skill levels of people and tenure in the field with a bow, but for most of us a non-recovered deer is rarer than for most people with guns -- seriously. That's what makes Crick's story all the more incredible.

I will tell you his "slump" didn't last long though. ;)

Well holy crap I finally have seen a dang deer. Sure it was about 300-350 yards away with just its ass facing me and tail wagging like a middle finger before it headed into a draw.
As for this coming afternoon I just finished putting a new set up within a stones throw
of some new scrapes. These deer are coming out of this swamp up through the this draw
and hitting a winter wheat field on top. Keep your fingers crossed for me I know crick did
this morning and thanks ol pal.

    Congrats Dan!
So this morning I leave to go get a energy drink and Diet Pepsi on the way back
i turn onto the dirt road and their is a big old doe eating corn right in the dang middle.
Yesterday evening my Step dad and son see 2 bucks and a doe eating that same corn
and I cant do a thing about it because its not our property. Im across the road about 400
yards in a stand where I drop my bow holder, hat light clip, and the earth scent pin that was
attached to my BHC hat fell off. Its fair to say ive hit rock bottom and with this last
week of Oct coming up and Nov next week it will get better.
Im trying not to ***** to much but man ive never experience a season like this and
to add I'm finding it very difficult to show patience while on stand. Ok im done lol
Im heading back home this afternoon from Western Wi and im just gonna say starting
Monday its a new season dang it! Good luck to all!

    Tony
