Meanwhile, with no statewide buck tag, I have multiple shooters beginning to show. One about 150ish, maybe a little less in my back yard. Goal is to get him on video wrecking a decoy in the back yard. I still can shoot another public land buck (Ft Knox) with the bow, and a second with a gun there. Got 2 weeks vacation starting Oct 30th. Good luck to everyone.
He has daylighted a couple times already, but go figure its usually while I'm at work. He's staying an hour outside of daylight both in morning and at night. I'm 90% sure I have his three bedding areas pegged (all in a line) based on what my cameras are showing. Time to use some of that PTO time
Going out to hunt this evening. What's everybody seeing? Are the bucks chasing or fighting right now? Should I tickle the ivories to get one in or are we not at that point yet?
I’m bringing my grunt call with me on my next hunts. Had a buddy grunt in a 120s the other day that he passed on. I might start rattling this weekend. Things are starting to warm up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Scrapes were hot just before the last full moon here in Ky. I had multiple videos of different bucks, including the one I shot working scrapes and rocking those tarsals together. The buck I shot along with another buck was seen by a neighbor dogging a doe in the morning on the same day I killed it. Scrape activity seems to have slowed down some now, but should start picking back up. Here, rattling works best from now till about the 5th or so of November.
Ok I think my plan is set. Strong wind out of the North West until later evening so I'll have to have a good scent control, but that wasn't an issue last sit. I'm going to follow the red line in from the North and head directly to my stand which is the red x. Pretty confident that the red circle is major bedding areas.
Going through my old SD cards and cleaning them out so I can hang cameras tonight. I completely forgot about these guys from last year. Hope they are still around.
Deer were still moving at noon when I was out yesterday, didn’t see much chasing activity though Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Just scored my buck, I’ve never done it before so if something seems off let me know, score is 61 1/2” Quick questions. #1 Do I understand correctly that the tip to tip spread and the greatest spread do not count in the score? #2 My buck doesn’t have a brow tine on the left side, so my H1 measurement be in the middle of the antler burr and the first point right? I took a pic of where I measured the H1 for clarity This is where i measured for the H1 left side And a full pic of the rack Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Congrats on the buck Ax! I process my deer as well and it also saves A LOT of money! Killing 4-6 deer a year it is a HUGE savings. I lost my freezer while I was on vacation so the last of my meat from last year along with a full turkey and a lot of other stuff all thawed out and warm. Was not fun at all to find that. Time to fill the freezer again since we use deer a lot in all foods. I am just glad that my family likes deer. Kids have been begging for burgers so I need a deer but will be picky when it comes to bucks. LOL They are not happy that I have passed up three of them so far. LOL
Ax your score sheet is wrong for Circumferences on the both sides. No matter what you get 4 of them! Read your Pope & Young scoring rules and you will see. You are shorting yourself some score.
Tip to Tip does NOT count in score but the inside spread does. I have not scored a deer in a while so I myself need to read over the scoring as well.
Got a solid sit in tonight over my food plot for the first time this year. All the beans are finally cut so I figured they would be looking for food and it worked out good! I actually grunted 3 times really soft and 5 min later a small 8point came in circled around me and stayed in my plot for a bit. Also had 4 new scrapes pop up within the last 2 days I noticed on the way to my stand so things are deffinatley heating up! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just like Dawg said... make sure to have four mass measurements on each side of antler. You get them regardless if it is a spike or a thirty pointer
Almost time to put in for vacation ! What is everyone’s plans for vacation this year? I’m taking off the 4, 5, 6 for Wisconsin and then 11-15 for Kansas. It’s go time!!! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
