This evening turned out to be a pretty good one. I finally reached a goal I've had set since I started bow hunting. I've tried killing a deer on my birthday for many years now, and it's just never happened. I changed that @ 6:40pm. Doe came in to 12 yards and caught one of the killzone tipped FMJs. She didn't make it 20yds. Old goal met, new goal set.

Where about in WI? If you're in south central you're in my neck of the woods! I will say this, the past 2 years the best days have been the 7th-11th... hopefully this year it's a little earlier for ya!

I keep hearing later rut, funny thing is everything I am seeing in michigan is pointing to early rut. last Sunday I watched two of the biggest bucks I have ever seen on stand chasin a doe around an hour before dark. these guys are known 5.5 yr old's by picture history. was crazy. best way to know for me is to watch scrapes. run a cam on one. the big bucks will leave scrapes about 10-14 days before full rut is on! right now they are still pounding scrapes daily

Welp. I'm going give it a shot. My stand I had the two bucks at last weekend is North wind stand. But today I have a SSW and I think I can make it happen.

The red dot is the stand location. It's on side of a hill. The blue dot is where I believe Jack Bauer to be bedded.

This marginal wind may be what I need to convince him to come out a little more earlier than usual.

The 85* temps won't help though

quick update from central michigan. been hunting a bit. not lots the big boys are showing minimal daylight activity. here are two bucks I have passed now twice. They are decent. the first one is a minimum 3.5 he very well could be 4.5 his body is unreal when he strolls out into field. last night he postured up and stifflegged marched at the second buck and that buck turned and ran. lol he has a solid 50 pounds on him I would say. last night buck number two came out at 50 yards bumping doe's and chasing them around field a bit. then more mature buck showed up and he quit straight away, the big guy spent rest of evening harassing doe's. Been crazy dry here in NW GA. Muzzle loader opener was today. Going to my old spot by the lake. It's public land, but it's archery only. Most people here tend to hang their bows up now. Going for an all day sit tomorrow. Buddy killed a nice one this evening on public land with his nose down grunting. Been saying this dry weather is going to have the deer off their usual rut time. Seems like it's going to start a little early this season.

Here is the deer my buddy got.

Well finally on the board. but not with anything that counts towards this contest...

Last Thursday I went out and was sitting in my "condo" treestand (large permanent stand that is super comfortable to sit in). Been there for about an hour and I glance in the field behind me and see legs trotting towards me. I assume it is a deer so I stand up and reach for my bow. About that time a coyote comes crashing in the woods and stops 15 yards from my tree and is looking behind where it just came from.

I figured it would bust out of there before I could draw but sure enough it stayed put and I drew back and put the smack down on it. It took off hurt and all of a sudden another coyote runs out of the field and stays in the same spot. He had heard his buddy yelp and was not sure what happened. I reached back for another arrow and he took off before I could take my first ever coyote double.

So I know he isn't worth any points but it felt really good to finally get something down.
