Ok peeps. If yall trust me, im going to send each person on the team (except JWD) a PM asking for who your vote for captain is. Anyone wishes to decline, let me know. If i missed a nomination lets get them listed as well.

Looking back through out the thread i believe we have 4 people nominated:

    Greatwhitehunter3
    Josh reed
    Okie_flinger
    Junior

I think we have thrown this around & procrastinated long enough lol.

Update. My dad is doing a lot better. He had a stent put in. If all is still going well I will be heading back home to Indiana Sunday. My buddy pulled the card from my cam and mailed to me. I have a nice 10 point 25 yards in from of a stand. He was MIA for a month. Hopefully he will hang around and I can get a shot at him. Thanks to my lovely wife she had me pack my bow to bring down, so I have been shooting as much as I can.

Sorry for my absence everyone, just got back from up north trying to seal the deal on a bear and my cell service was sub par! It was a challenging 5 days that's for sure and unfortunately we were unsuccessful. Passed on one small bear in hopes of something bigger, but all the bigger bears were hitting the bait sites at night and that was after the 4th day...took them a while to even hit them to begin with. Anyway lots of fun out there and learned some new things as well. Any time in the woods is a good time in my eyes. Thinking of possibly going back up one more time before season ends, but idk how likely that'll be with my schedule.

That's for sure! I had a blast and think it is safe to say I'm hooked! This whole bear hunting and baiting thing is pretty awesome.

Agreed 100%! I helped bait with the outfitter & know we bumped a few bears, one was sitting 30 yds away watching me!

Yea we are by no means outfitters so we are learning by talking to people in the area and by just doing. This was my first time and my buddies who's property it is, his second year. He got one last year in the second week. Yea that's crazy, one night i was getting down in the pitch black dark and could hear one just waiting for me to leave, was crazy! The night before that at like 6:00 PM a pack of coyotes just started going nuts within 100 yards from me, sounded like 10 of them! The trick for us is to get to know what they like the best that brings them in and holds them, especially during shooting hours! Here was one that I was looking to shoot, but only at night!

Thats a nice looking bear! Yea, delicate balance of figuring what yummy stuff to put in the barrel but then not too much that it fills them up! We used cake icing, trail mix, gummies & then bacon grease/fryer oil & caramel. The thought they will track in the grease/oil on the trail so others will smell it & follow it back!

Yea I thought so also, the only bear I saw during shooting hours was a lot smaller than that one. And there are plenty of bears in the area, so I was really shocked the sites didn't get hit right away! The bad thing for us was we cannot bait in NH until opening day, they didn't even hit the bait till the 4th night, late! People that say it is easy when hunting over bait, clearly have no idea!

That's exactly what we were thinking and did the same! We bought two 50 gallon drums of bait, one was a granola with berries and nuts/trail mix and the other was all oats and grains with brown sugar and like crumb cake mix, they both smelled completely ridiculous and sweet. We then topped it off with some peppermint candies, icing, cooking oil, and molasses.

    Here's a few pics...

Haha yea I'd be lying if I said I didn't stick my head in each barrel at least once.

Yea pretty horrible that we can't bait prior to the season opening, plus we had a bad rain on the second day all day and night which I don't think helped us out any. Next year I'll go up and establish the sites with my buddy, hunt it and then continue to go up through out the season when they are hitting them regularly and when there is less food left for them in the woods as well. I will def save more time to do so! Weird thing is last year the second day the bait was out they started hitting them hard, so idk why the change this year other than the amount of readily available food for them in the woods already and all the cornfields in the area aren't cut yet either so I'm sure they're hitting those up also.

Rain usually is ok for hunting bear. Washes your scent away...unless the thunder & lightening start. Then usually shuts em down. That whole eclipse had the bears acting weird & out of routine for two weeks after from what i heard from outfitter...maybe same issue?

Not sure where we're sitting on replacements but I saw JWD commented on a different thread an hour ago and so I told him to check into the team. Hopefully he sees that and it's not too late.

Yea i dont know that we have asked for replacment yet but we have less than a week to ask for one if need be. I counted 3 seperate times someone on our team thread mentioned having attempted to contact JWD. Three strikes? Maybe the 4th time is a charm?
