Good luck! We're having a huge storm getting ready to come through. Should get them up and moving. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk
Good luck TeeJay !! Mark... congrats on your deer. Glad you are seeing deer. I've got out a couple times since I last posted and movement is still bad. I did have a doe torture me for a half hour the last hunt. She would never step in a spot I could get a shot even though she spent the whole time within 10 - 30 yards of me. Was glad just to be entertained though. Been a tough season so far. Bright side to it all... it can't get any worse... just better. Joe good luck with your hunts !! Tim
I took Thursday and Friday off to hunt before the orange army and the thunder sticks reek havoc. Hopefully I can end my dry spell. Good luck guys!
Got out this morning. It was absolutely perfect with calm winds, frost on the ground and temps in the upper 20's. Had shhot opportunities on fifteen deer, 12 doe and three bucks. Funny thing is every doe still had their button buck with them. Tells me they aren't ready yet. Yesterday evening had four bucks all running together still. I think it's getting real close but isnt quite to the full chase mode. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk
I'm not seeing alot of action here. The other morning I had 2 bucks (115" & a fork) feeding together and traveling together. There were does in the field and they didn't pay any attention to them. Now last night I did have a small buck (small enough I couldn't even see an antler- he could have been broke off) chasing 2 does pretty hard.
Nothing this far. Logged 27 hrs since wed. 5 Doe. The bucks are just starting to rut. So its going to get good this week.
I've been out all week. Just saw my first shooter 100 yards from the stand. I'll be out again tomorrow. Just had a huge storm come through that dumped an inch of snow. We'll see what happens tomorrow. Good luck guys.
Well, guys, I am back. Congrats to everyone who has killed this year. We can't get a score for my first deer. I couldn't find her but, the coyotes did. Believe me, I tried. 5 hours, maybe a little more of tracking. She was dead and I didn't find her. I have too much to do today to try to find her remains but the coyotes were going to town like they won the lotter where I finally feel she went donw. Anyway, it was my first bow kill so I am back to posting. Good luck to everyone on the rest of the season especially the next few weeks.
Well, I am back from Illinois. It was my first time up there, and I had a ball. I had been to Indiana a couple of times without seeing much. Although it was frustrating, I seen a ton of deer. It was one of those trips where it just wasnt meant to be. I had a doe tag and a buck tag. The first couple of does, I passed since it was early. The first doe I shot at, I cleanly missed low. Second doe, my arrow hit a 1 inch limb and never did find arrow. Third doe, my bottom bow limb hit the stand and the shot went way low. It got so aggravating, that it was almost funny. The real bad part of the trip came on Thursday morning. I seen a nice 8pt and got a shot. He was slightly quartering away and I thought I smoked him. I shot him early, so I just kept sitting there in hopes to shoot a doe too. By the time I climbed down, it had been 3 hours since the shot. Plenty of time. I had a complete pass through. My arrow was covered in blood. I took up the trail and it was really good. About 100 yards, I found a bloody bed. I kept tracking an additional 300 yards and lost blood at the edge of the river. I guess he swam the river. I have no idea how he didnt die. I thought I put a good shot on him, but apparently not. I am sick about it. Nothing is worse that losing a deer. But besides that, it was a great trip. My girlfriend loves to hunt so I carried her with me. She got to see some good deer and she filled her doe tag on a gigantic mature doe. Atleast one of us can kill them. lol
Skunked in the big woods this far. I passed 9 bucks. All yearlings but one nice 3.5-4.5 yr old. I'm guessing 135" 10 point. But he was missing his left antler. Broke off at g1. I'm going back up wed for a week. Good luck everyone.
You should have shot him !!! I could have sent you a shed to glue on. No one would have known !!!! Geeeesh Man... what a bonehead !!!!!! Seriously... it is great you are seeing deer. Best of luck when you head back out Wednesday !!! Do you have any snow yet ?? Nothing here so far. Give me a call if you get a chance before heading back out. I am waiting for the rifle season to get over before hitting it hard. Got another week of it then peace returns to the prarrie. Tim
Not a good season at all. I missed a buck 2nd or 3rd weekend. Had does everywhere that same day but, I passed due to being too young or not having a good clean shot. I wish I would have arrowed one of them now or heck maybe all of them. lol I finally conected to have a jacknutt in a truck raise cane in the neighboring pasture and she got up and ran. The yotes found her before I did. First arrowed deer mutilated. Best week of our rut and my son and I had an accident and he has a broken jaw now. He is doing well and will have the wires removed in 8 days. I came out a little sore. While we were in the hospital, I had two stands stolen both being ladder stands and also found today that 12 tree steps were stolen as well. With a little over a month left i am on the verge of going crazy here. The rest of the season, I wont pass up anything. I hope everyone elses season is going better than mine. Good luck to you all.
I've been hunting my gravel pit pretty hard last week. There is a big one living out here. I see sign. Passed on a young 8 the other day. It's 3 degrees out this am. I'm a bit chilled. Going to move to a new stand n warm up.
Well guys rifle season is over today. I took a nice mature 10 that broke off his G3. He scored 129 but with that G3 he most likely would have been right around 140". He was a buck I had many game camera pics of from this summer. I'll be back at it tomorrow with the bow. I know the bucks are still moving pretty heavily around here. Hopefully I can connect.
Congrats on your buck !!!! Great buck !! I have to work in the morning but might get the afternoon off. I will be off until next Monday after that so I will be hitting it hard with bow. Hopefully a few deer will be taken before next Monday for us. Rifle season is over and not many deer got killed in my immediate area. I think the best bowhunting will be now until the season closes the first part of January. Been looking forward to this. Tim
I made it out tonight for a fast hunt after work. I've hunt this spot twice and hunted by the wrong slough the last time. Hunted the wrong slough again but both times now 4 does/fawn have headed to a rock pile out in a disked corn field that we farm. They like climbing up on the rock pile and milling around on top of it. No cover what so ever in the field other then the rock pile. Next chance I get I am going to sneak in there and make a make shift blind out of some of the rocks so I can hide in the rock pile. Them does aren't gonna know what hit them. Hopefully they pull a buck over to it as well !! I just hope the badger that lives in the rock pile... doesn't mind company. The coyotes like hanging around it as well. I've got an arrow for them as well. Tim
