teejay, glad to know you are seeing some. I had the worst opening weekend Ive ever had here in Alabama. I hunted sat and sun. Mornings and evenings. 16 hours in the stand total and did not see the first deer. That is super frustrating. I think with the full moon and the fact that it was in the low 80's had something to do with it. Thats my excuse anyway. Good luck to yall!

We're in for a big cold spell the next couple of days. Temps are supposed to be in the upper 20's on Weds for the low. I plan to get out tomorrow evening and possibly Weds-Thurs. Hopefully movement will increase. Crops are really coming out and deer are getting forced into the ditches where most of the stands are located. Good luck guys.

Here she is, shot her at 23 yds tonight, broadside. 60# Turbohawk, 29" Easton Axis Nfused, 100gr Slick Trick Standard.

Double-lunged her, and she ran 60 yards then piled up dead, in sight.

Pictures don't really do her justice, I was alone and it was starting to pour, so I just snapped a couple. She was a pretty good sized doe!
Great doe Patrick. I went out yesterday again with no sightings. Temperature was in the 40's but the wind was howling. Couple other hunting buddies in the area saw a couple of yearling bucks on their feet. Temps are again going to be cold today but the wind is again supposed to be gusting as much as 26 mph. Good question: how do you guys hunt the extreme wind? Ditches? Thick woods?

Well guys, I blew a good early season oppurtunity this evening. I got off work at 330pm and headed to the woods. It was 80 degrees yesterday and we had a big front come through and the temp was 54 today. I had found an individual redoak that was raining acorns. It was the only oak in the area. Everythiing else was pines. Sure enough, at 530pm, look up and here he comes. About a 115-120 inch 8pt, which is a dang sure good one for alabama. I had the wind on him. Everything was good. And for whatever freakin reason, I got impatient and stopped him at 38 yards in a shooting lane. I shot right over his back. The redoak was 18 yards and there is no doubt he was coming to it. I dont know what I was thinking. I told myself to be patient but my trigger finger overuled. I coulda had a great, short, broadside shot if I had waited. I am so dejected. The season has only been in 5 days, but still, that sucks. I am dead on out to 40 yards, i guess i just got a little shook up. Good news is, they are definitely coming to that isolated oak tree, so I am sure he isnt the only one eating there. I will give that spot a few days and then hunt it again when the wind is right. Hope yall shoot straighter that I do. lol

Went up to my farm yesterday and pulled a camera I had over a mock scrape. I got this buck on camera over a mineral lick earlier in the year with only one sighting. He decided to show up 3 hours after making this mock scrape and putting the camera over it. We've decided to name him "One Night Stand" due to showing once and leaving for a period of time. Also got a pic of a little guy that looks to have broken his rack. Didn't see anything yesterday, due to some pretty high winds. Hopefully everything changes here in the next couple of weeks. Good luck guys.

I wacked me a small doe yesterday evening. And my girlfriend killed her first racked buck ever. She had killed a couple of spikes before, but she dropped a small 6pt. She was pumped. Here is some pics. I shot my doe at 45 yards and smoked her, yet I couldnt hit that 8pt the other evening. Guess thats the way it goes. deer 4.jpg deer 3.jpg

Congrats on your doe !! Congrats again to your girlfriend on her buck !! Good to see you both getting it done.

    Teejay

Quit sending pictures of your bow. I want to see a deer picture from you dammit !!!!

I got the day off yesterday. Almost was lunch for a retarded coyote. I got to my spot right at first light. I was a bit late. I was getting situated in the cattails and had just made a small shooting lane when I saw a coyote out about 75 yards trotting my way. I always nock an arrow first before anything but I didn't that morning trying to get ready. I grabbed my bow and it got hung up in the catails which made a small noise getting it loose. The coyote pegged it and lock on to my spot. He came running full blast while I was trying to get an arrow nock. At 10 feet he came slamming to a halt when he realized the big, ugly thing ( me ) wasn''t lunch. He came running right into the shooting lane I made. The look on his face was priceless. it was the look of " OH chit !!!! ". I was just pulling up but he turned inside out and got out of Dodge fast. I was pissed !!! Rookie mistake cost me a yote.

Didn't see a deer all morning as the duck hunters were blasting away all around me. I went out yesterday afternoon only to pick the wrong slough to sit by. 3 does and a fawn came out by another slough that I was debating on sitting in. Next time !!!!

I had to work today but get tomorrow off on account fo it. Will be hunting both morning and afternoon. Deer movement is pretty bad now with all the duck hunters but hopefully I can find a spot that hasn't been pressure to bad. Have a spot in mind for the morning. Probably go back to the slough the does came out by tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully not watch them come out by the slough I hunted yesterday. My luck says I do though!! LOL

We gotta cold front supposed to hit tomorrow here in bama. Gettin down in the 30's friday and saturday night. I am taking a hike saturday morning. I got a spot i hunt on some public land that is about an hour walk in. Terrible, uphill walking. But I usually always see some deer. I hadnt hunted it yet this season, and I bet no one else has either, so it could be good. I see we got 200 points on the board. Good job fellas. Maybe when the rut gets going, we can put some big "boneheads" on the ground. Good luck!

Saw alot of deer the past three days. 2.5's moving very late in the morning. Had a group of does come through at 11 this morning. Took a button buck at 30 yards. Didnt realize he was a button buck to my distaste but he'll eat. I'll post pics after work this weekend. Good luck guys things are getting real close to getting crazy.

    Here he is.
