Shed Head it was nice meeting you and good luck here in the future for your hunts! I actually won the shed measuring guess contest on NASHC site! Go look at my shed I posted up! That is my best to date for a single. I looked for hours on end till I almost could not walk any longer with no luck! My best set was last year and I posted it on the Trail Cam to Sheds Thread on here.

I walked a good 7 hours yesterday with a buddy. This guy has permission for the best land in the tri-county area. I was really excited when he asked to go shed hunting down there. Didn't find anything, but I saw a lot of deer and we had a blast!

Still got a lot of snow over there?

If you do, wait until you get a good chunk of snow melted and see if you can go back, lots of sheds around here are starting to show through the snow.....

Oh yeah we have tons but its all starting to melt from these past two days. I was pretty sick today otherwise I would have been out hitting up some good properties this afternoon. Tomorrow I think I'm going to go out and walk through our ceders. I know of a large 12 pointer that tends to bed in there pretty often. He has a pretty funky rack so I"m hoping to find his bone.

Had two sales calls on pretty much opposite sides of my territory today (couldn't be helped; I'm bringing in a mfr rep to the second one from about six hours away and that's the only day he could get to that one)...

So I've got some extra time now in the middle of the day... GPS says I'll get to my second appt. 2 1/2 hrs early if I drive straight through, but I'll be driving within 6 miles of the farm I hunt in IL... ;)

What should I do? There are shed-hunting clothes in the back ... Hmmm.

    ;)

Just got back in the car and on the road again.... Been walking solidly non-stop since my last post. Found a dead coyote; that's it.

Sorta feel like Charlie Brown.... "All I got was a rock!" :D

I'm still amazed -- really am -- by some of the spots I've hit this year and not found sheds. You'd think I'd find at least a 1.5-year-old's in some of them!

He was actually found by a friend of mine this weekend and it was really close to where my friend bowhunts as well. it is a horrible thing to walk up on just a horrible gut feeling. my friend is going to have to remember this forever. but at least he can be laid to rest now and the family hopefully can have some peace. what is wierd is i drive by there all the time and never hiked it this year im still freeked out about it you never know what your gonna find out there.

Isnt it illegal in IL to shed hunt on forest preserves? I know Lake county it is but unsure of the other counties.

I sent IDNR an email and this is what I got back from them!

Shed antler hunting is allowed on IDNR Fish & Wildlife hunting areas, but not in IDNR State Parks or IDNR Nature Preserves or buffer areas. County Forest Preserves and Municipal parks do not fall under our jurisdiction, so you would have to contact the individual local governments that govern these areas for permission.

I know you can go walk around these area's and look for antlers. As long as you don't remove them you have not broken any laws.

Finally found another one this afternoon... one-half of an 8-pointer that would have went around 95" or so had his other side matched.
