I, too, will be out this weekend, so with a little luck, we'll have 50 points on the board. My girlfriend is a rookie bowhunter this year, so I'll be teaching her the ropes the first couple weeks, then she'll be on her own. I hope to have does for the both of us this weekend.

I'll be out for sure now this weekend. Lots of deer around. I don't know if I'll shoot a doe or hold out for a good buck. I have a hard time shooting does this early in the year knowing that the big boys can be on their feet early.

Well I just got home after a good weekend. Saturday morning I went out goose hunting and was able to shoot 3 birds solo. I then later drove 40 minutes North to hunt some public land in WI. I didn't see any deer unfortunately but It was my first time and I found some really nice spots for next weekend!

Hope the rest of you had a good one as well!

Team members; don't forget that if you shoot a deer, you have to have TWO pictures of you, the deer and your bow. Different angles obviously. Now let's get some points on the board! I'll be out maybe next week, this week is out completely.

I mentioned earlier that im hunting the Southern Unit of the Kettle between Palmyra and La Grange. I believe it was page 10 of this thread :tu:

I really do like the area though, some nice topography and lots of cover. Hopefully I'll find out where the deer are hanging out.

Well guys, cross your fingers for me. I hit a dandy buck tonight and I'm going after him in the morning. Shot was a little high with not a lot of penetration, but he only ran 50 yards into the swamp from what I could tell. Obviously he could've walked off a bit more quietly after that but if all goes well he won't be too far.

I honestly don't know what he is. If I had to guess I'd say 140 inch 9 or 10 point, 18 wide? Had good beams, good mass, good length. Dandy buck

We were trying to get a doe all weekend and it just never panned out for us. We were sitting in a stand that is off the corners of two fields, with one of our sanctuaries just in the woods 40 yards, and it makes a perfect little funnel no matter which field they are going to, or if they are heading from swamp to swamp.
Anyway, we got out extra early this afternoon, about 3:25. At 3:45 I noticed some legs moving at the far end of the sanctuary, roughly 100 yards from me. It looked like a small deer, and then noticed a deer moving in front of it. I assumed it was a doe and fawn.
Just like that they turned and started coming toward us, and I finally saw that one was a buck, so I told my girlfriend to get ready. The closer they got, the better looks I had at the buck, and I realized he was a dandy. I grabbed my bow and quickly started trying to figure out where he was gonna go. He was headed directly for us but I knew there were three ways he could go. I started ranging each of the spots, and just put the sight at 30 and I'd make the adjustments on the fly. As luck would have it, he picked the 30 yard trail.
I was drawing my bow back as he got into one of the openings and I grunted at him, hoping to make him stay in that hole. Instead he took a step, got behind a tree, and stopped. I waited for him to take two more steps, and he did, so I settled the pin and grunted again. He stopped and I shot. He ended up being the first deer I've ever had jump the string.
It wasn't a full-fledged string jump, but more of a flinch, and that was all it took for me to hit him high. For one reason or another, I got terrible penetration. The buck whirled and took off into the swamp.
I heard him go about 50 yards in before he stopped running, so if I'm lucky, that's where he is. He very well could have walked off after that, but the wind picked up and I couldn't hear worth a darn.
Im hoping that he'll stay down in there, since it's our sanctuary, and likely, his bed. It's supposed to get down to 34 degrees tonight which should help. Now I just need a bunch of luck
