Hey guys, keep up the good work! My hunting has to be on here with you guys, still at Mayo Clinic with my mom! Things here seem to be headed in the right direction, hope to get home this weekend, maybe get out for some hunting therapy! Good luck everybody! Keep doing what are you doing that’s the important stuff. Hope everything continues to trend in the right direction
Got him tucked into the freezer. Have plans tonight, I’ll get him measured and scored tomorrow. He is younger and smaller than I thought last night. I’m a little disappointed that I judged him wrong but at the same time happy it’s been a while since I’ve taken a buck. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I am working, I will take off Thursday and Friday hoping bucks still chases. Have a nice buck on my trail camera late evening Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Congrats man that’s awesome, 2 bucks down for the team. I’ve seen my #2 shooter 4 times in the last 10 days. Had him at 75 yards tonight but as always he was locked on a doe. I’ll be back after him in the morning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Changed it up and hunted opener with my wife. Ended up getting one of the bucks on the list. Hoping to get back after it in WI this weekend!
Just submitted my buck, he scored 107”. Didn’t help the team as much as I had hoped. This weekend is rifle opener in Nebraska. I’m headed to deer camp with a buddy on a large ranch up north. It doesn’t seem the rut has really taken hold here yet but I’m sure Saturday is going to be good following high winds the next 2 days. I plan to take my bow or crossbow to see if I can get a doe as well. Stay safe guys! Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Good luck and have fun. Your buck was fine for the team! For what it’s worth I wouldn’t have guess your deer was 107, I would have been way off base and said it was closer to 120ish maybe a touch more. In any case it’s a great buck congrats
To be honest after I shot him I told a couple of my friends that I figured he would go in 130s. What I had misjudged badly was the age of the deer. When he came into view he was moving very slow, scent checking very methodically through the woods. This combined with a hitch in his gate made me think he was an older deer, maybe even one on the decline. Sadly it was the opposite, I think he was actually only a 1 1/2 year old with massive potential. His AB point would have likely been a full blown drop tine next year and he had minor palmation already on his main beam. My property in the past has had some really cool massive racked deer. Since EHD hit 10 years ago we just haven't had many deer at all, last year the numbers started to look better but this year they are down again. I haven't shot a buck in 8-9 years because I never see and barely get photos of mature bucks. Rifle season is hard on the population in my area, road hunters and deer drives are the norm. Pretty much anything that moves is fair game, there is no management. This is the smallest buck I've ever shot with my bow, that said he is one of the better ones I've had in range on my property in quite some time. While I'm disappointed in myself for misjudging the age so badly I'm still happy that I was able to close the deal. I love bowhunting, getting everything to come together is incredibly challenging. It is the most sporting and fulfilling thing that I get to do. I pray that I get to do it for many years to come. Thanks for sharing the experience with me!
The score is just a number at the end of the story, congrats to everyone who has tagged out. I’m heading to WV this weekend to do some rut hunting on the mountain. Really looking forward to it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
