Went out this morning at about 11:30 to check the trail cam to set up for next week, I was a lil pumped bc on my way out there I found quite a large pile of fresh buck scat. Made some noise before entering the woods to just get anything in the area out of the area so I didn't walk in an jump anything, came back and checked the pictures and was feeling a little discouraged, I had just shy of 300 pictures on my camera and wasn't seeing any buck pictures, then made it to pic 276 and saw this PICT0276.jpg  I can't wait until I can get out there Tuesday morning!!!! I literally missed this guy by an hour n a half thank goodness, lol, I would have been VERY upset if I scared him off!

Chiro, that is an awesome Midwestern buck! Man, I hope you stick him. How is everyone's season going thus far? I'm still not seeing much and keep running into the same bowhunters. It's definitely time to relocate and start scouting. May have some private land not too far from me that I might be able to hunt with my brother-in-law. Fortunately, I know the area somewhat and there are a lot of deer in that area. Fingers crossed.

As promised, here's a pic of my rig. It's a little bit older, but I made it my own (especially the Packer-colored Vapor Trail strings :D)

The scorecard thread doesn't have the 50 points listed for us. TeamTitanium42 posted in the thread with 2 pics, and the thread says "updated" twice after his post, but the points aren't on the scoreboard. Did his post not contain something that I'm missing?

No, he posted according to the rules of the contest. I've been keeping tabs on it, as well; however, I think only Fitz is the one who can post the actual points. Our team is not the only one that does not have their points posted. If the scorecard is not updated by Sunday, I'll PM Fitz about it.

Who's getting out this weekend? Would love some more kill shots on this thread...

IL opens Monday - I might take a stroll that night with some of my kids, never really a serious hunt on the 1st, just like getting out.
Next Friday evening will be first hunt, but again taking my 2 oldest boys with me and camping that night - no expectations. Won't get much time in stand until Late Oct as weekends are packed coming up...but arrows will be flying once I do - looking forward to it!

Chiro - that awesome that the big buck is showing up on camera at 10:00am!
Like all the pics of rigs...probably won't post mine until first time in stand...

Good luck everyone - looking forward to more stories.

Thanks BZ, I am pretty pumped! I can't get out on Monday, have to work, the doc I work for knows it is opening day, but since he isn't letting the other doc take the day off he won't let me have it off either, lol. BUT, we do get Tuesdays off, so I don't mind the extra day, I have waited this long so one more day won't kill me...per say haha. Plus it will give me a little extra time to double check everything with my gear since I have to go to a wedding up in WI this weekend anyway. Hope everybody is having a good week, and good luck to anybody making it out this weekend!!

Blew a shot at 50 points and some freezer meat today. :( Woke up later than I wanted, got to the woods later than I wanted, and was just finishing setting up at 7:30 (about 45 minutes late, in my opinon), when a doe walked in. Sunrise is 7:45 today and shooting hours are 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset. However, even though it was 15 minutes into shooting light, it was still dark in the woods and I didn't see her coming in. Spotted her when she was 15 yards away, but didn't even have an arrow nocked yet. I had literally just sat down. So I'm watching her walk in and trying to pull an arrow from the quiver. She's moving kinda quick and walks directly under my stand.

She got a wiff of where I had set my bag down to get in the climber, and she did a quick u-turn. However, she only went back 10 yards, then turned around to go where she was previously headed, just went around some brush. She got into the clear and I drew back, but just couldn't get a very good picture of her in the sights, so decided not to shoot. Let the arrow down and sat back down. Nothing else all morning. Sat there all day surprised that a doe was by herself.

Pulled the trail cam mem card and just now looked at it. There was apparently another doe behind her that was picked up on trail cam, but I never saw the second one. When the first went around the bushes, the other stood there looking at her. She must have spotted me either when I stood up, drew back or when I sat back down, because the cam got a series of shots with that telltale flash of white. Pretty cool series of shots, so I'll upload them later.

Sorry I missed out on some points (more sorry I missed out on freezer meat) but I have several pics of deer in the same area about every 2 or 3 days. Only have one little 6 point buck on camera, but I'm going to leave him alone. Will only shoot him if it's the last day of season and my freezer is empty. I know there are some big bucks in the area, so I'm hoping to draw them in with the smelly stuff next month.

Hey man no worries, better that you made a good decision about not trying to guess where to shoot and making a poor shot then just waiting for another opportunity! You will get some meat soon, I am sure they will be back!! Good luck to anybody else out today, I am prepping my gear tonight when I get off work, and if I Doe happens to come into the back yard tonight I will make sure to take her down!

Don't even worry about that. Just be glad that you saw a deer and that you have the discipline to not attempt a shot you were not comfortable with. I have no doubt that you're going to get on the board. I can't wait to see pics of when you stick her!

Stick him if you get the chance! :) Are there other large bucks on the property or are all of the others MUCH smaller. If most are a lot smaller, then maybe let this guy get his groove on and pass along his good genes. If there are other good size bucks, then yeah, throw an arrow through this guy!

id wait on him... looks pretty wide though, but the rule of thumb i use is if i have to question whether or not i'll shoot... pass him up. sucks sometimes!

Shoot whatever makes you happy guys...big or small - I'd love to see the story and pics!

I'll be taking 2 of my boys with me Friday night hunt crammed into a buddy ladder stand - hoping for a shot at one, really want my boys to get the full experience with tracking/gutting/dragging/etc...weather does look good for the weekend.

How about the rest of the team - give us an update guys and gals? Good Luck!

Only update for me is I've been working my two jobs and doing school work. I did order my first tree stand and am totally excited about it. I purchased a new-in-box Muddy Outfitters Hunter Pro aluminum hang-on stand for a really great price. :woot: All I have to get now are climbing sticks, a better safety system than what came with the stand, and a bow hanger. Unfortunately, the climbing sticks I'm seeing are just as much, if not more, than what I paid for the stand. Rather frustrating, but it is what it is. I'm hoping to get back out ground hunting soon. There has been a ton of deer traffic where I normally go.
