Check a camera I have on my little piece of private land today (mineral spot) i have a doe and her two fawns on it day after day. But either my card filled up or the batteries died. No antlers again this year here. I can’t afford to out-bait my neighbors.

Rumor has it that I have a big 300lb+ hog on my place.. I'm going to head out tomorrow and put a cam out.. finally. I think the hog is an old sow that doesn't breed any longer but has been pretty wise to not get got. The last time I had hogs I also had a bunch of nice bucks, weird how it works but I think pressure from the other hunters around me doing a bunch of improvements just makes the deer wise as to what is going on.

I set out on my hike this morning and thought, 'this looks pretty dry. Think I'll leave the gaiters on the car.'

    3 miles later.

A lot of muley scat...some elk tracks and older scat. Gonna drop 4 or 500 feet. Good help me, if I shot something back here. Course, I can hang meat near that stream with the snow and it will stay fresh for a week. [IMG]

I went out to the farm and hung a camera and setup my Redneck Blind. One thing I like about my place is that its all little bluestem pasture with islands of sand plum, persimmon and cedars. I have always been a treestand hunter, however I realize I am missing out on being able to be more mobile or playing the wind better by using ground blinds. So, I've ordered a new Ozonic.

So on my way out I spotted a pretty nice buck. It's on. Screenshot_20200916-111204.jpg

Spent a few hours sitting in the rain yesterday afternoon. My hunting buddy saw a few but I didn’t. Had another hunter in the tree I had planned to hunt when I got there and, since i’ve never seen anyone hunt there during bow season, I hadn’t planned a different spot.

Thanks, I bought it about ten years ago. It was April when I first walked it and morels were popping everywhere. Wasn't even 100 yards from my truck and was making an offer, lol. The added bonus.. Z-1.JPG Z-2.JPG TS'19-5.JPG 20181114_172804.jpg 20171027_193842.jpg 20171122_175911.jpg

Well what a week. 5 real days hunting elk and I've gotten into them 3 days.

The week started Monday calling a bull into 28.5yds, yet he didn't offer a shot.

Tuesday a stalemate with a barking spike elk for at least 5 minutes. He gave me a glimpse of himself at 50yds for a second.

Wednesday and Thursdays adventures and finding some great country, but other than some stick breaking that >I think< I may have had 2 elk circling me.

Today though, I hiked through some of the worst country. Arid, rocky pines, like walking on rice crispies with rocks to beat your feet up. I pushed on trying to find any streams with water, cause I knew I'd find green growth. I bumped a mule doe near the bottom of one stream in some aspens and had marked spots on this stream and the adjacent, 600 ft up, 800 ft up and 1000ft.

About 400 ft elevation gain it was looking dark and lush. I heard a bugle around 2:30 way above me on the mountain. I caught a few wiffd of that telltale barnyardiness. Pushed up to about that 800ft mark (about 10.8' elevation) and heard all kinds of elk chatter (cow chirps, lost calf, a half hearted bugle) and pushed through the pines... Unfortunately I saw the back end of a cow running down the mountain and I could hear a few others with her. I was crushed. 0 to 100 and back to 0 in a minute. While sulking and texting my buddy, the chatter started back up, a couple hundred feet above me. I worked up close enough to see a mess of brown through the breaks in the pines. I could even see one feeding down toward me.... And then the wind blew up hill. Busted. Then the rodeo stampede started... I reckon the herd was probably about 25 before I split it up.

    What an awesome day.

I never use my computer on here. And I don't know how to add quotes on the comp.

Bill that sounds like an amazing hunt man. I hate it turned out that way but, bro, that would have been an incredible rush.

Great Job Adam! Glad to see you got one. I'm going to go find the thread to read it.

Well arrowed the lead cow, in the group we busted yesterday, around 8:15. We basically snuck into their breeding area this morning on a finger ridge, hoping they'd work their way up the nearby creek/aspens. And it played out just like that.

Unfortunately did not have any blood at impact, or the first 50-70yds, but we were able to follow hoof prints. Bumped her, bedded right below us. So definately hurting and we have blood now, but sitting here giving her some more time...

I'll try to sneak in on her in a bit a and get another arrow in her, but think it's a live hit...
