Illinois report #2: I am sore as hell but learned a crap ton about hunting flat open woods. I setup up in what I thought was a great spot, well, it was a great spot if I wanted to shoot little 8's and doe. I saw the same "family" of deer in this patch of the woods. I saw deer on every sit, just not one to use a $411 tag on. The little bucks were kind of looking but nothing I would consider rut activity.
Decided to take a 1.2 mile hike into hell, and guess what...the doe are huge and the buck sign I found was huge as well. Even the the 6 point strolling through was big. I think I walked and wadded through about 10 miles of woods and 12" deep water, my body is sore, but I think I'm into big deer territory.
Going to reset set for the weekend of Nov. 15-17 and stay in that thick deep stuff. I am working some phone calls to gain access to park closer to the area, but it will be about a 1/2 mile walk and save my out of shape butt from dying as I drag a 900" deer out of the woods.

Funny how a mile walk normally isn't a huge deal. Then you put on a bunch of extra clothes, grab your stand/sticks, a backpack full of gear and your bow and it's a whole new ball game.

Good luck out there! Things are definitely wide open right now. Bucks seem to be falling by the minute.

anyone ever find out why they didn't enter my doe? Just curious unless it was an oversight. I did give 2 pics. Similar, but the bow is upside down in 1 and normal in the other.. lol
No luck last PM or this AM. He's been around middle of night. Still can't believe that the buck I have been after for 4 years was under my tree at 4:45pm Sunday afternoon... and we can't hunt in MA on Sundays....... wtf.
I'll get out tomorrow afternoon for a last local sit before I leave Fri AM for OH. I start hunting out there Sat afternoon.

heading out this afternoon for last MA sit until I'm back from Ohio. I do know I will be in Morgan County. A guy shot a stud 10 point there Monday afternoon after missing a nice one Sat. He said he saw 6 shooters out of range before he shot his that day and that the bucks are moving pretty good.
Fingers crossed it stays that way or gets better from 11/9-15!

    Nice looking deer!

Tomorrow looks like a good day so I'm going to play hooky and spend the day in a tree at my lease. I'll likely bury myself in the timber on a travel route between a couple of doe bedding areas. I believe I'm going to have the right wind to pull it off. Depending on how that goes I may stick out the full day in that spot, or move up to some standing beans for the afternoon sit. Either way, I'm looking forward to some tree time.

Hunted most of the day yesterday with the exception of about a 2 hour break. It was freaking COLD and I needed to warm up. Saw a pile of deer and some good 2 year olds but no big boys. Hoping to get back after it this afternoon. They seem to be moving good today.

I'm heading out this afternoon, hopefully the big fella joins the party. I may tuck into the wood line rather than the field edge, either way, I've been ready to hit the woods all week.

Side note: Anyone keeping up with the Boonerville drama?

ill be out tomorrow tucked in close to a doe bedding area, only hunted this stand once so far this season and saw a doe and a fawn, those are good numbers for my public land hunting lol, I know the doe bed back on the hill so hopefully the bucks will be up cruising or chasing them!

He got busted by the DNR for using a landowner tag on his 2nd buck in Iowa. He killed it on a piece of property that he didn't even have permission to hunt.

Is it safe to say I'm glad we booted him off our team years ago?

It’s a mess, read the last 8 pages or so of his love from boonerville thread. Made some dumb decisions.

I just read that thread yesterday and it's very bizarre. I think he needs some professional help.

Well, not sure if anyone saw my LFTS post, but I dropped my glasses from the stand into the creek. I could see them in the 8" of water on top of the leaves. I figure, what the hell, I can get down and back up real quick. Well, its about a 2' step down from the bank into the creek, I'm holding a root and step into the creek, well, 8" of water turned into about 3 feet hidden by the leaves, I slip and go shoulder deep into that cold ass water. I got my glasses, but my phone fell out into the creek, gone forever.
I had to pack out get to the house soaking wet and cold. Super pissed, but it can be replaced...for a stupid amount of money, dumbass phones.
I'm on dad duty tomorrow, wife has football game (shes the dance coach) and its homecoming, so nothing until Sunday for me. All my crap minus my bow is still up the tree waiting for me.
