Not sure if I'm going to be hitting the woods for the opener tomorrow. We got 6 inches of rain yesterday, on top of the record-breaking rainfall we have received so far this summer. Tomorrow is supposed to be a bit on the windy side 1-15 mph, with gusts up to 25. Normally that would be full send. however, with the ground being swamp-like from all of the rain, I fear trees being blown over, which the news is even warning about for homeowners. Saturday we are supposed to be getting the effects from hurricane Lee with wind gusts up to 45 mph with significant power outages expected due to trees being blown over with the ground being absolutely saturated. I want to hunt bad, but I don't think I'm willing to take a chance tomorrow morning. I'm about 85% on not going....so there is a chance!

I been out in some wild winds and had a tree come down about 20yds from me, that was the last time I did that. Better off missing one day to be able to hunt many more later!

Yeah, I usually love being in the woods when weather stuff is going down, snow, fronts, wind, etc... but something like this...i don't like it.

BUTTTTTTTTTT......the hurricane coming up is going to have the barometric pressure dropping super low which could really get them on their feet in woods where hunters havnt been since last November. lol

It was breezy, but not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. I really could have gone out yesterday too, but, I was so mentally brain-dead from my week that I hung out at home and went to an early boozfest/dinner with my wife.

I actually just sold the E-bike last week. It couldn't do what I wanted it to, and it saved very little time, just a bit of energy. I'd have to unpack the jeep, attach everything to my bike, ride into the spot, unpack the bike, put everything on, and then start scouting/hunting. It was a failure. I tried hitting the easy button and got slapped in the face every time I tried using it.

Moving forward, I'm thinking I need to take a similar approach lit VTwhitetail does. He lives in VT and hunts in NJ in 3 long weekends a season. I'd be okay taking a week off the first week in November this year, and going somewhere, but kind of late in the game to just start planning, lol!

I hear you, I know you were talking about making a pivot. You could still go out somewhere this season, are there any small chucks of land you could go check out? Maybe even try to get permission on some private around your house?

There's a few smaller chunks of public land around me that I was going to check out during the offseason, but then...life, LOL!

The deep spots about 2- 2 1/2 miles deep are out for this season unless I get my fat ass in shape for my week off in November (which is possible), but even then it's a crap shoot, but at least I'll be where the big bucks are.

I'm thinking the "deep spots" (what we used to consider deep) that my dad and i go to (Only about a mile deep) are going to be saved for later in the season and I'm going to focus on areas closer to where we park to keep it doable and realistic with my given times available to hunt.

PA Hunting licenses aren't too bad in price, same with Ohio. The issue I see with traveling to hunt is if I kill a buck, it becomes a race to find a processor who can get it done in time, then, freezing it for the 10-12 hour ride home. I could process it myself in chunks and then finish processing it at home, but that is not ideal. and would require constantly buying bags of ice to keep it cool. Maybe I'm over complicating it, idk! lol

When I traveled to Illinois to hunt at the DIY outfitter, the owner would process the deer and deep freeze it for the 21-hour ride home. I'm trying to get back in there for next year and future years, but they've scaled back a bit and there is a waiting list.

Sounds like a good plan! Pa and Ohio is def not bad at all NR wise. What I do is on outa state hunts is 1/4 them in field and pack with Ice in cooler with contractors bags. You could even find a place to process it if killed early in your travel, I get block ice and it keeps very well on the bottom then pack with loose on top. I had deer hold for 5 days no problem in an igloo cooler, nothing too fancy.
