I havnt been seeing much rut action, Ive only seen 1 shooter and he was just a little bit out of range, Ive been seeing lots of little bucks and does passed on them all waiting on a shooter. I cant seem to get other public land hunters to stay away from me ... so fustrating!!!!
Stay after it, Deb! It’s the rut, so your luck can change in a minute! That said, the deer numbers around us definitely seem lower this year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Last night had yet another encounter with my target buck. (#6 encounter this year) He broke pattern and came in behind me walking into the woods away from the foodplot instead of out of the woods towards food. Go figure. I was in a saddle to give more possibilities. He came from behind me on the road. Saw him at 30 yrds. Grabbed the bow, turn to my off side. He had turned and was angling away. By then he was quartering away at what I guessed was 45 yards. I bleated to stop him and let it fly. He string jumped and I may have also been high. It happened so fast, who knows. But it was a clean miss. The most frustrating thing was that had I been in the ladder stand that I hunt in the mornings when they come back to the woods, it would have been a 15yd broadside shot. Oh well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hey Team, I shot and recovered a buck on Saturday. I didn't realize he was as broken up as he was when I shot him. I don't think it's going to score great, maybe 115 if I had to guess. He broke off about 12" - 14" of antler. I'll try to get a picture of him on here later today and I'll work on getting it scored this week. Dealing with the meat at the moment and that's the priority. On Friday I saw 5 or 6 different bucks cruising, they don't seemed to be locked down yet in WI.
Here's a couple pic's. I finished processing the meat last night. I will skin the head tonight for a euro mount and get a score. Does anyone know off the top of your head if you get a circumference score between broken of tines? For instance on the right side I would get a base measurement but do I lose the circumference measurement between the G1 and where the G2 used to be?
Thats a tough old SOB! I don't know on your scoring question. I am sure there are a couple of guys on the forum that can chime in on that. @LittleChief any guys that can help out?
You get 4 H (circumference) measurements regardless on both sides always. Measure between the broken off tines like usual. And congrats on a beautiful buck!
Ive been out hunting but no buck yet, I had a good 8 point coming in but he winded me and went back the way he came. My husband did get his buck a few days ago, it was awesome, not bad for 39 days after heart surgery . Here are some pics of him with his buck. 1st pic was a few days before he had put a trail cam in a new spot and got his buck on the cam. Then when he hunted the spot for the 1st time in a new climber he couldnt get up high in the tree. The 2nd pic I have circled him up in the tree with his buck walking by a few steps before he shot him. After the shot the buck ran and dropped dead right next to the trail. He scored 147 7/8. My hubby did great !!!!!!
