The best day for me looks like Halloween evening which I have committed to my kids. I'm hoping they keep moving on Friday evening. I saw two small bucks on Thursday evening last week and had a doe come in with 15 minutes of light left and got to 7 yards before she got nervous. She caught my ground scent at 7 yards and she could sense me. I was on the ground, cool encounter.
The night picture I was in stand yet. He was 15 minutes late to the party. The daylight photo I sat until 1010am. I don’t win at cat and mouse real often.
The story is….it was a morning every hunter dreams of. I had nonstop action from 745am on. I shot him at 939am according to the trail camera picture. Everything from chasing to cruising to does and fawns traveling together. I had a couple nice buck come to my water tank and another one following a doe. Those were 2 and 3 year olds. The buck in the picture was the 8th different buck seen. Seeing him down the hill at 75 yards I initially thought he was my #1 (OMG) which I have no pictures of but saw him 2 1/2 weeks ago. I grunted twice and this buck came in to 40 yards and tore up a tree. Realizing he was not OMG I took a look at him and decided to shoot him. He came to my water tank from down wind and without hesitation. After deciding on shooting him I didn’t look at his rack until I walked up to him 70 yards away. I watched him go down after a heart shot. That’s when I realized I think this one is also a younger buck and should have held off. That’s the story. I’ll get measurements a couple days when I get the head back. Euro mount is the best I can do with him. see photo of the shot
My top buck has showed back up on my property I hunt only during the rut....This trail passes 18 yards in front of my stand.
I had a couple exciting hunts be not shots this weekend. I'll keep grinding. Congrats on the buck dbl lung!
