Tomorrow’s the day in Illinois…I still haven’t bought my tags yet. Won’t be able to hunt the opener and we’ll see about this week. Standing corn up at my farm still but I shot my biggest buck on the start of the cold front with corn up though…time will tell for me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Go get ‘em, Deb! I have kids activities this week, so Friday will be the first day I can get into the stand. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yesterdays morning opening day hunt was a learning trek with the new crossbow. I hunted a acorn filled pinch but all I saw was a doe & fawn and 2 bald eagles. I have the Mission sub one crossbow and wanted to hunt from the ground with it until I got used to hunting with it before I try tree stand hunting with it from my climber. It was not a comfortable long walk with it thru alot of chest high crp & thick woods. I packed in my Backpack, chair, seat cushion, and crossbow . The brush caused 2 of my bolts to be knocked out of the quiver & I had to back track to find them , luckily it was only about 45 yards. With the chair, cushion and pack on my back I couldnt even sling the crossbow over my shoulder & it became heavy to walk holding it for over a mile walk in. So I ordered a new Crossbow Backpack thats supposed to be here friday and hopefully this will solve my problem.
Seems like my first few hunts of the season are all learning while dialing gear and stuff in. Looks like a nice pack! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I made it out to hunt this morning with the new crossbow backpack pack, it was great and really comfortable pack. Seen a small buck and a shooter but he was to far for a shot. I had to cut my hunt short after my husband called and he had to go to the emergency room.. he had a heart attack. So he had heart surgery today and it went great. He is now resting comfortably. He had a 70% & 60% blocked arteries. I just got home to decompress after today. Poor guy has been battling cancer & now this. Seems like he can't catch a break. The heart attack happened while he was hunting. So now he is so bummed that he might miss out on the rest of the season. It's been a long draining day.
Wow Deb that’s a horrible day but glad it sounds like your husband will be okay! Keep us updated on how he’s doing please Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My hubby is home & doing great. His doctor said he can return to bowhunting as soon as he feels good enough to do so. He is already out walking the dog. Just no weight over 10 lbs for 1 week. Then cardio rehab sessions & classes for 12 weeks., and a lifetime of medication he will be on... But he says he feels great. They put 2 stints in his 2 blocked arteries and it's been a miracle how much better he feels.
So glad he came through and is on road to recovery! What a scare. Just prayed for u guys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Finally made it to the stand over the weekend. Took my youngest with me, his first time in a tree. We had an enjoyable hunt even though the deer didn't cooperate. My cameras aren't showing much activity, hopefully things pick up when the corn comes out.
Looks like the rut is starting to heat up! Who is all going out this weekend? We have a temp drop and pressure rising, so I'll be able to hit the stand tonight and tomorrow.
I finally got out for the first hunt of the year. I hunted Thur - Sun and it was as slow as I've every seen it in my neck of the woods. I did see one OK buck that I would have passed on had it come into range. Hopefully things pick up this week but it is going to hit 80 degree's here in WI on Tuesday and Wednesday. Some weird weather to deal with this year that's for sure.
