I too have chronic shoulder problems and that’s my fear as I get older…so sorry to hear that Deb. Hopefully you still get the enjoyment of the woods with your new crossbow Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Oh no! FWIW, 3 years ago (I was 50) I developed severe pain and couldn’t draw 60 lbs. I came across PT, Christian Williams of Archery Strong. Signed up for his personalized program. He had my shoulder fixed in about 8 weeks, and I kept using him to build strength for 8 weeks after that. Been shooting 73lbs with no pain ever since. All online. It was worth every penny. I have had a tetherd saddle and platform for about 5 years now. It looks like I am in a similar situation as you as far as hunting a specific property that has existing stands. I'm overweight and out of shape, I can still put together a set up in about 15 minutes with 4 sticks and a saddle platform in daylight. It's not impossible but I'm pretty gassed by the end of it. Add in air temperature and any inclement weather it is a task, but very doable. It's far better than dragging a climber or packing in a portable stand. If I had to hunt somewhere where packing in is the only way to hunt I would choose that method and go practice for a month ahead of time. I feel the actual hunting from a saddle is WAY better than hunting from a stand, it takes some getting used to but in 5 hunts you will come to realize you have almost 360 degree rang, you can move around with ease, use your tree as a shield to make movements with your body, dig around in your pack for stuff easily, the list goes on. I like to use existing stands on our property as my climbing sticks and will put my platform about a foot above the top of a ladder stand and hook up to the tree. The buck I shot in my profile picture (sadly with a rifle in gun season) I never would have had a chance to see much less shoot if I wasn't in a saddle at the top of a ladder stand. It's a tool just like any of the other hunting gear I have, I don't use it all the time but when I do use it I really like it.
Just nudging us to join the GroupMe that Ben set up. Should be fairly straight forward to get in. Last year was my first time in a group that used it. I liked it because I was chasing a giant, and felt comfortable posting pics there that I don’t on a public forum like this. (I’ve got a ton of neighbor pressure). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If he shares the pics, dont leave your old team 15 hanging! I want to see him, haha Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
I had this I. My right shoulder before & the doctor. Anted to do the surgery but I declined & opted to do the shoulder steroid shots instead with lo bring my bow poundage from 65 to 40 lbs and spent almost 2 years working my shoulder back up to 65 lbs. I had one shoulder hurting last season but muscled thru it but now the other shoulder is even Worse. I'm go.na lower my bow to 40 lbs today & see if that is doable or not. Getting old sucks sometimes.
Shoot 2 Kill works for me, I'm easy. I hunt private land in WI. This year I'm hunting with my Mathews Halon 32-6. I am switching to 125gr Iron Will single bevel broadheads this year from the Swhacker expandable I have been using for a long time. My season opens on 9/14 but I likely won't get in the stand until early October. Good luck to everyone, we seem to have a real solid team.
If you’re not in yet I highly suggest getting in to see what he’s after it’s worth it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Today is opening day of archery in NC. We’re having some sparse intermittent rain and it’s cooler than it has been so here’s for hoping. I sent a request to the group me. Ya’ll making me learn another new app. Lol. Good luck everyone. Stay safe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I may just try the saddle this year. Just had a buddy offered to loan me one to try for the season. He works in the hunting industry and has about a dozen . Lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
