First hunt of the year tonight. Light rain most of the evening. Had small 6pt pass my stand 3 times in 2 1/2 hours. Last time he came through a nice 8pt about 120" was with him. Looks exactly like the one I shot last year. Passed at 20 yards. Sat about 30 more minutes and was done for the night. Supposed to rain all weekend. Try to get back out next week.

I was out Saturday. I was in the stand from 5:45 until 10am. At 7:30 I had a doe and a small 6pt come in. While they were at 30yds a bigger buck moved through at 80yds, I wanted to try and call him in but couldn’t because I would’ve been busted by the doe & 6pt. That was all I saw for the morning.
I took a break until 2pm and got back in the same stand. Sat there until 6:45 and had a doe come by at 6pm. That was it for the evening.

I think starting Wednesday will be the time to be in the woods around here. This was the week of the full moon. I’ve never had any luck seeing big bucks a couple days before or after the full moon.

I’m going to hunt a buddies farm Wednesday afternoon. He’s got scrapes and rubs popping up all over his 30acres.

    Good luck everyone!

Biggest buck I’ve ever killed and by far the HEAVIEST! I’ll post the story and better pics later, I’m exhausted from dragging him out!

Wednesday evening I was invited to hunt a friends 30acres in Kane County.

I didn’t get in the stand until 4:40.
At 5:55 I see an 8pt running towards me about 150yds out, and then this guy comes out behind the 8. The 8 comes to 60yds and let out a wheeze. He wasn’t very big and i knew i wasn’t going to shoot him if given the opportunity. He went to my SE and into the woods behind me, I could hear him thrashing the trees.

The other buck made his way through taller grass to my W, I couldn’t see his rack very well and didn’t think he was big enough to shoot on my friends property, he’s had some giants in the past. All I could see was his left side and it didn’t look that big.

When he got to 30yds I hit the grunt call just to see how he would react. He turned towards me and I immediately realized he was a lot bigger than I thought!

He then started towards me, he was on a path that would give me one opening at 20yds. I start scrambling trying to get into position to shoot. I quickly draw back, He stepped into the my lane, I let out a “ meh”, he stopped slightly quartering away, I released the arrow and watched it hit perfect behind his left shoulder.
He ran about 80yds into some thick, nasty, swampy brush.

I roughly scored him at 142 7/8”, this is my biggest deer by 20”. He is by far the heaviest deer I’ve killed, it took 3 of us to lift up his rear and hang him in the cooler.
I’m going to double check my math before I post him in the scorecard.

After 3 straight days of rain, I'm finally able to get in the stand tonight. 5-7mph wind. Feels good. Try to get it done tonight.

Started raining again around 5. About 6pm the 8pt I saw last Friday started running up and down the trail, in and out of thick brush. Eventually takes off. 20 minutes later he comes running back down that same Trail chasing 2 does. Just need his dad to start making his way through.

Update on my buck. I printed off a P&Y score sheet and watched a quick video on scoring, been a while since I’ve scored one.
    I forgot 2 circumference measurements.
The total score is 150 2/8
Here’s the score sheet, let me know if anyone sees any mistakes.
I’m posting him in the scorecard thread today.

    How’s everyone’s season going?
I’ll be out this weekend after a BIG buck or a doe.

    Good luck!

I got out about 3pm tonight. Had seven does out in a field for over an hour. Had one small 8pt come out and run them around a little bit. Didn't like what was out there and left the field. I think rut might happen a little later in my area this year. Passed up a lone doe at 20yds thinking this might be the one that will bring in the big boys in another week. Now thinking I should have let an arrow fly tonight.

Hey b2h, not trying to be nosey but the buck you scored is missing his 4th mass measurement.
    Congrats!
