NY is nice that you can hunt every day from Oct 1- til Dec 15+, depending on how the dates go. Can hunt archery til the Friday after Nov 15. Then rifle starts the next day. Sent from my XT1710-02 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I'd love that time in the woods of the northeast. I'm close to NH and usually get over and hunt sept 15-oct7 when our archery finally opened up
Weatherman completely botched the forecast for the day. Got home from work and was getting ready to head out and the wind picked up to about 15 out of the east of all things. Don't have any stands set for east so I'm on the couch. Will be out in the morning one way or another! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
taking my buddies boy out tomorrow for youth season and hoping he can tag his first whitetail. great temp. drop leading into tomorrow morning I'm a little sad I won't be the one holding my bow/gun but I love passing on the tradition to the next generation of outdoorsman/girls! best of luck everyone this weekend.
Awesome deer brock! My season has been going great this year. After I killed the buck last week, I had to work the weekend, and that was the start of our blackpowder season, and of my first passion of deer season. I absolutely love hunting with traditional blackpowder. I got to where I would be hunting on Wednesday morning. Hunted the morning with little success, it was a perfect morning though. Cool, still, and had rained lightly all night making the woods silent. I came out for an evening hunt and decided to go to an area that's always been good to me, a piece of public land that doesn't see much pressure. My absolute favorite way to hunt is still hunting. I eased into the woods at about 1500 Wednesday afternoon, and in an hour and a half I had covered about 350 yards, as silently as is possible. As I start easing down a ridge I see movement ahead about 65 yards, and can see it's a good buck. I melt down to the ground as it goes behind some trees, get prone, and wait for it to step out in an opening. At about 45 yards he stopped and I was able to shoot. I love my .54 caliber. Blood trails are amazing And it lead up to my oldest buck to date. 6.5++ And the walk out with about 80 pounds meat It's been a great season, one I'm blessed to have had. I'm now out of buck tags, with the exception of a 2.5 day rifle controlled hunt, so the rest of my season, aside from the controlled hunt, will probably be spent helping my wife kill a deer, and chasing does with a longbow. Good luck out there everyone, and be safe! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Thats an awesome buck Caveman! great looking dark rack and fat ol belly. going to be some good eats for sure! what brand muzzy is that? I like it. Muzzy is prob one of my favorite seasons besides our early season bow. thats the season that got me into hunting and always grew up shooting a muzzy. this an Oklahoma buck? congrats on filling your freezer this fall and getting bone up on the wall. well done!
Thanks! It's a Lyman trade rifle. .54 caliber shooting 425gr hornady great plains bullets. It's a great gun. Yep it's an Oklahoma big woods buck. Thanks again and good luck to you! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Good start to vacation. Passed up a 3 yr old 8 twice. Came cruising through the first time at 9 o'clock. Had a spike come in 30 minutes later and at 10 o'clock the 8 came back chasing a yearling doe. In for lunch the back out to a different ridge looking for a big boy. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Pretty slow this afternoon. Killed a nasty mangy coyote right around 2. Saw another one at 415 and a young half rack buck at 530. Might sit the weekend out. Daughter turns 2 tomorrow so I'm sure dad will be putting together toys Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
The best is yet to come. The weather looks awesome for next week. Leave in the morning for MO to hunt for the week. Can't wait as the guide told me today that the bucks are starting to be in their feet. The temp drop from Sunday to Monday should be interesting for sure. I'm not hunting Saturday or Sunday either.... 70 + temps are definitely not ideal. I'm waiting for monday. I know you can't kill them at home but I need/want to spend time with family. I play my odds and try to hunt when the weather is good and stay out when its bad. It is also a good way to let your spots rest. Sent from my SM-S120VL using Tapatalk
headed out now to sit with a youth hoping they bag their first one. It's 32 right now and was in the mid 50s all yesterday. Hope this drop gets them moving!
Good luck! Nice morning hear also but I'm packed so no tree til Monday. Sent from my XT1710-02 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Fellas I was blessed to shoot an absolute Oklahoma giant the last hour of the last hunt yesterday evening. High temps beat us up all week but a north wind cold front got the deer on the move. On the way back to Ohio now. Deer seem to be moving, so I’ll be in a tree the rest of the week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
that's an incredible buck! with the smoke pole at that. what an absolute stud of a whitetail. what's the story behind it? any history with this buck?
Wow I sure didn't see anything like that this weekend. That is a true stud for anywhere but especially for Oklahoma. It was hot and nasty windy in my part of Oklahoma this weekend and didn't see anything but small ones and does. Sent from my XT1254 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Well took the weekend and cheated and took out the ole smoke pole but didn't see anything worth shooting. Decided to add a little color to the meat missiles and see if it will change my luck any. Sent from my XT1254 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
My buddy that is the outfitter missed this buck in bow season last year. He said he is easily 7 yrs old.
