I hunted this morning for the first time. Passed a little buck at about 13 yards. I pulled my camera card and its showing my better bucks coming through between 10 - 2 during the day. I'm right next to thick cover and its fairly thick where I'm at. That giant buck I'm hunting came through between 11am - 12pm twice in past 2 weeks. One day was 3 days ago. I'm going to check the weather conditions for those days and moon positions to see if I can find a pattern. Pretty pumped that he's now bedding on the property I hunt! I just finished the Drury's book, Giant Whitetails and they believe that a rising moon around 4-5pm makes the best evening moon phase, and a falling moon during the first couple hours after daylight makes for the best morning movement. I am planning to test this against camera pics and actual hunting. I would be interested if the bucks you have correlate at all? Sent from my XT1080 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I trust what the Drurys say. They are good. I've tested a few things they have said and they were right on. I mainly pay attention to moon position. If the moon is directly overhead or underneath is what you are looking for. overhead is best. If i can get a day where the moon is overhead during a peak movement time during daylight normally I'll have a good hunt. Throw a cold front in there even better. I have seen several deer in the middle of the day over the past few years just driving around. When I see this I'll check the moon position. Most of the time its overhead or underneath within an hour or two of the time I saw deer. There are some apps for this and you can buy a moon dial too. I stick with the apps. I've heard the drurys talk about rising moons before. I'll have to start paying attention to this.... I didn't know they had a book. I might have to buy it! Sent from my SM-S120VL using Tapatalk
It's an older book (2003) but it tells the story of the biggest bucks they have killed over the years. I bought it cheap on Amazon used. I have found some of the apps but am still trying to figure out what makes big bucks tick. I think some just have different personalities and that adds to the variance we see. Well I am ashamed to admit it but I killed my spike this morning and didn't bring my bow back when I got him so I have no pics so I can't check it in for us Sent from my XT1254 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
