First one of the year always does. Something about knocking the rust off and shooting something that's not made of foam.

Think fitz usually tries to get it done once a week.

He does it by himself though so sometimes goes a little longer, depends how busy he is with the resort and hunting.

Drew my permit to hunt the military base/animal sanctuary, which, as I understand, wasn't difficult. They were hoping for enough to draw a pool of 2000 hunters, but only got 1300 applicants. Assuming they have sold some additional permits since the "drawing deadline", I will be one of maybe 1500 hunters on 53,000 reserve/sanctuary land Thursday. Scouting is not allowed, but I have been looking over Google maps and such, so we'll see how things go. Permit is good for Thursday and Friday, but family business will claim my time on Friday.

Congrats again to those who have had success. I made it out Friday evening and saw more does and fawns than I was able to keep track of. Problem was they all showed up at once. The fawns were running around playing and while I was busy watching those an old doe with a limp showed up and busted me...guess who just went to the to of my hit list .
Made it out Saturday morning to a different stand and had a doe and two fawns feeding on acorns directly below me before shooting light. They stayed around for 15 mins. and although it was light by then I didn't want to take a chance spooking them by drawing.
Leaving work early Friday and plan to hunt that afternoon and pretty hard all weekend. Have a great cold front coming in with lows in the low 30s...can't wait, it should be a great time to be out.

I just replied to the thread. I scored that deer twice and was within an inch both times.

Well that's good, those accusations usually tend to go in the other direction of someone over scoring a buck...

I entered a buck a few years ago and shorted myself about 5". Guys on here had me measure again, ended up scoring 129" and change.

church archers, congrats on the doe. You need to send that tractor my way.

Well folks looks like it might be a late season bowhunt for me. Went to the Doc today and he said another 3 weeks in the boot and MAYBE we can start physical therapy. If anything I hope I'm at least walkin by gun season in Nov. What a bummer. All this great weather around, dropin to 32 fri night, you all whackin stuff left and right or at least seein deer. DANG!

Whew that's better! thanks for letting me unload. AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Good luck to everyone out there!

I had a long day in unfamiliar woods and I, apparently, chose the wrong end of the woods. Closest I got to seeing a deer was a single hoof print on a dirt road. Saturday I will get out again. Hope to see more.

Had a fork buck come in at first light, after that nothing. Got down at 9:45 and home for some lunch then back out at 2:30.

    Goodluck to those hunting.
