Is that bone in? You generally get 40-50% of weight in meat so 148# is a LOT.

Nope that's bone out, I knew he was over 200lb even after I dressed him. My doe got me 79lb of meat last month. For as much as a lard butt that he was dragging him the 50 yards to get him out, I think the guys that processed him for me are pretty spot on with the 148.

Lol if it includes some of the stuff you listed they would have driven out to where I field dressed him and to my house to get his tongue:-) he was a big boy that I assure you, I just wish he had the same mass in his rack as he did in his hips

Anybody hunting this weekend? I was planning to go to Ohio but had a pine tree fall in the yard this week so I am homebound to do some clean up.

I believe it. The buck I took last year for this contest ended up yielding ~140 pounds including the hamburger and he was a monster bodied old brute too.

Depending on what this rain does (calling for rain the next three days here) I'll try to get out some. Calling for 50-60F too for highs. I'm still not done with harvest but rain will stop me again.

No hunting for me - only thing in is waterfowl. Don't really have a spot for that right now.

Good luck with tree clean up, Mike. Good luck if you get out, Covey (and anyone else)!

We had one nasty ice storm this morning.

Good luck to our weekend hunters.

Our bow season is on hold for the gun season. I would rather bow hunt or gun any day. With all the snow we got this past week and all the standing corn. I've only seen one deer since November 15. I'm about ready to call it a season. I had a good bow season , put 2 bucks in the freezer and my son Inlaw shot 2 does. So we have fresh venison. Hope everyone can get a deer and we can ove up the list.

Didn't see squat again this morning. It might be time to put out some corn. I invested in some heavy camo bibs in preparation for a cold late season.

I know this is a gun shot but just wanted to share this with you guys. Shot him this afternoon on opening of rifle here in WI...it almost looks like a twin to the one I got during bow season. image.jpg

Man, you would have thought I was hunting public land this morning. I think the property across the creek has some pretty serious hunters (food plots, elevated box blinds, etc.) and I had 3 of them sitting within 120 yards of my stand. None of us saw anything...

    That sucks...
Raining here this morning. Neighboring property has visiting "family" hunters this week for gun season and they've been shooting the piss out of anything that moves...I hate rifle season and would be perfectly happy if it went by by to be perfectly honest...I loath it.
The added pressure, the crappy/ignorant neighbors, poachers, road hunters, deer drivers....all makes me feel ill.

I agree.i use to enjoy gun season. But now a days I would be happy to see it gone. Once the gun season is done our late bow season isn't anygood. deer are all spooked and nocturnal. I wish they would move the gun season to a later date. maybe bow season would be better.
