Went to a stand this evening, packed my climber a mile back on the farm where I was getting pics of crossbow. I passed on the big 8 point again and a 120" six point and also saw a doe and fawn but no big boys. I'm getting concerned, I've not gotten a pic of Crossbow since like the 9th of October and still didn't have any of him on these cards tonight. I did have pretty nice new ten point with snow white antlers though back on the 25th. I'm a bit bummed thinking I might have lost Crossbow to a neighbor or a road hunter. On the bright side, I also did not have any pics of the big 8 point over the last week and he walked within ten yards of me again tonight. I'll keep hunting that farm and hoping for the best, maybe I bumped crossbow out of there or he just roamed out temporarily. Lots of big bucks roam through that farm, guess if Crossbow doesn't show back up maybe another brute will.
Awesome picture covey! No news on my wife's buck... Here's a few pics of my buck taken right in front of my stand the night before I killed him
Love those white, white horns! Neat to have pictures of your buck on camera. I doubt I'll get a buck I have on camera. There are so many different ones - I am sure a complete different one will be the one I get!
Nice pic Covey. Would you shoot that buck given the chance? That's cool Booner, that's a great buck and having extra pics before you shot it is really neat.
The bucks are moving. One friend missed a big 8 at 30 yards and another scored with his Black Widow bow.
Honestly, I don't know. I only have three pics of him and none showing his full spread. The one head on shot I got of him, half his rack (left side) was out of frame. I think he's outside his ears and he looks borderline age wise (4.5?) with our 5+ yeah old minimum. Honestly at this point I think I'd need to see him in person and see what impression I got from him in person. We have better scoring deer running around and some older so my first inclination is to say no...probably not. But if he looks better in person you never know, I have about bit my lip in two both times I let the big eight point walk away, not sure if I could pass up that ten point.
Here in the public land mountainous area I hunt in SW Pa I would definitely shoot it. Ohio, maybe. We have had a really big 10 on camera a few times in daylight but none of us have seen it in person to know.
Do I hunt tonight when we get rained out of work? 60% chance of rain/snow might scare me off the stand tonight...
I probably would try it given the time period and deer movement now. I've been having a lot of family health issues with my parents along with harvest gearing up so my hunt time has been crappy lately.
Rain here, too. But I am going to venture behind my house this evening (opposed to my good spot 45 minutes away). If I do get something (should see a doe) - I'll have help finding it quicker.
Got home too late to make it out tonight. I will be in the stand in the morning rain, snow, or shine.
We didn't get rained out til 3, so no hunting for me tonight. I don't mind sitting in the rain, but I have zero confidence in my wet weather trailing/tracking skills. I'm already pumped for tomorrow's sit in snow flurries!
I sat out in the drizzle behind my house. No luck though. Seen a few birds and that was it. I'll be going out tomorrow morning to my regular spot, unless it's pouring rain. I keep hearing conflicting weather reports.
So much for the snow they were calling for. It is pouring rain here. I am sitting in my truck to see if it slows down. I'll hunt rain but not complete downpours. Deer movement is less and it's too easy to lose the blood trail.
We're clear and 29F here. I'm finishing off a cup of coffee and a cookie and heading to the stand. We'll see if'n Bone-afide or another big boy makes an appearance this morning. I expect I'll freeze out without my heated gear thanks to my cold blood...
