nice job everyone! I didn't see anything this morning. A lot of duck hunters out, so I bet all that noise put the deer on notice. I have Halloween off from work, so that will be my next time out.
Awesome scores. I'm hoping to get at least a doe...our freezer is empty! Early season is winding down. Ends Nov 8, here. I'm not much for late season unless it's a bit warmer.
Hey guys I just realized I didn't mention I got my buck on video with my gopro. I'll try to edit it and get it posted in the next couple days. Can't see the shot but can see him walking in and running off with the arrow in him.
Sweet! Can't wait to see it! On another note, the buck we all thought was over scored...turns out on the re-score that it was over scored only by like 8". I thought it was funny that the other day when we were talking about it that I said 10" wasn't going to make much difference. Turns out I was closer on guessing that score than any of the guys posting low ball guesses about it. Just thought it was funny.
Honestly I was still guessing 125 or so in my head. I wasn't really that far off I suppose. But some of those guys were pretty rough on him before Matt offered to score it. I think some of it was uncalled for. It's ok to second guess a score but some guys were even accusing crx of picking up a road kill. Makes me not even want to post a buck until I get the score double checked lol.
Mike, I have no idea where I came up with the 8th then. Good to know - but where in the world did I think the 8th?! Lol. Thanks!
LOL you had me double guessing the date when you said the 8th, so I had to look it up to verify before I posted haha.
Exactly and that's why I'm usually posting to try to encourage folks to back off of the accusations. It takes the fun out of the contest. After the ordeal of mine last year I almost didn't even enter this years contest. Couple that with the fact that a good many on this forum can't guestimate a rack score to within 8-10" to start with from a pic or two and there's really no need for much crap to be slung either way. An inch or two or even ten here and there, no more often than it's going to happen, isn't worth causing a lot of grief over either way. The contest winners generally win by a few hundred points anyway.
Speaking of which....if one more buck hits the ground for our team we will be in first place...just sayin
Yeah, a cold front is supposed to pass through here this evening. I'm trying to get the last of my currently open ground drilled in wheat today. If I'm not in a stand this evening, I will be in the morning. Rut and movement should be gearing up here with the cold front so I'm liking the thought of hitting it hard this week. Problem is that if it doesn't rain with this front, I need to be hauling grain and starting bean and milo harvest and then planting that to wheat too so I'm a bit strapped for time. I'll do what I can though to get some antlers on the ground.
Next chance I will have to get out is Saturday. Here in the Laurel Mountains of SW Pa they are calling for snow Saturday. I will definitely be out.
So I am hoping to go out Friday. Cold, rain snow mix. But, my jeep got hit by a deer (husband drives it for work), and needs repairs. Therefore, I have the Jeep at home ~ he took the truck. I don't think I can safely get to my spot with this thing. Ughhh. But, if nothing else, I have behind my house. Which, may not be bad to switch it up. Time will tell, but don't think it'll be fixed by Friday.
Bummer. Maybe it will get fixed, if not mixing it up is sometimes a good thing. I almost hit a big 10pt about 1 mile from my house this morning on the way to work. It was a close call. If I saw it in the woods I would have gladly shot it, but I don't want a buck bad enough to total my car to get it haha.
Definitely not worth hitting. My estimate from the garage was almost $2000. I have an antler indent down the side then the bumper needs replaced. But 2000 is a little much. Didn't even get deer meat out of it! I'm going to just buy a bumper and do it ourselves. It'll still be cheaper than the deductible. Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
Good luck airen. And to you as well Booner in Illinois. I have hunted whitetails in Al, Pa, Oh, and SD (this was in 2006 and I was using a longbow and missed a 160" 10 pt, doh!). I am staying in Pa this weekend. Thursday is our 15 year anniversary (22 together) and my wife asked if we could just go out Saturday night for dinner instead of a week night. So I am staying close to home.
It was a good night of hunting, but the truck broke down on my way home. Waiting for a tow truck now...
