I am taking my boy out again Sunday morning. The temp is still a little warm and the wind is supposed to be from the SE, but we will get out their either way. Starting to be that time of the year when anything can happen.
We're doing pretty well on points now. No idea how everything will stack up once all new kills are entered but I think we have like 478 or so points so far.
I'm off from work tomorrow and will be doing some pheasant hunting in the morning before heading up to do some hunting in the afternoon and all day Saturday. We'll see what happens...my uncle was up there Wednesday and had some activity indicating the rut is starting around us! Can't wait to get up there I love this time of year
Well things are definitely heating up in Illinois.....my cousin shot a 167" 8 point on our lease today...at 12:01pm!
I looked last night and thought we are doing well. Hopefully a few more of us can add some points (a buck in my case). Good luck to everybody this weekend! I am leaving here as early as I can today. I don't see a very productive day ahead. All these bucks hitting the ground has me in full day dream mode LOL.
I'm in the same mode. My truck is loaded with my things - so heading to the woods directly from here. Going a bit earlier so I can exchange cards in the cameras. Lets just say - I'm quite antsy. Something has to be moving. I just hope that the corn isn't being cut! That'll ruin me for the weekend. It was around this time last year when I walked in and couldn't get to my stand. If that's the case, I'll just steal my husbands for the evening.
I wanted to check cams today, but I won't make it out til 6:30...I'll probably just wait til tomorrow. I'm hoping to get out 3 times this weekend.
I'll be headed out to the property tonight and in stand in am. Was hoping for cooler weather than a high of 68! I am debating throwing a decoy out as I have never tried it at this property and every year a few of the mature bucks are missing half their head gear by early Nov. I have never seen a battle there but its happening so maybe I can challenge one early on. Good luck everyone.
Well...that big boy above...he has relatives. I seen FIVE nice size boys tonight. Two of them were like the above. Unfortunately they all came out below me into the field behind me. Closest one was 130 yards. But, I could see the horns. Those two honestly looked like Holstein cows in a field. They were so dark, too. This was about 20 minutes left of shooting light. Saw eight deer total. Closest was about 50 yards away in some brush. He was a buck, but I couldn't tell what. I have pinpointed down where these boys are staying. I'll be scouting a spot after tomorrow mornings sit. Hoping I didn't kick them out as there were two smaller bucks in the field when I snuck out. They didn't run off, they kind of moseyed, so I think I am okay. I'm honestly okay with nights like this. If I see something that alone is good for me. Though, wish I could get *something*. If one of these guys step in front of me though...I might get buck fever and forget what I'm doing. Sorry guys! The date isn't set, but the time on those are correct.
Never. I can count on one hand the number of times I've sit in a deer stand all day...and have fingers left. Wow, those are nice deer. Hope you get some chances at them, good luck!
Hey guys just thought I'd update you on my night. I got out there about 4:20 and did a little grunting around 5:30 and had this nice buck come in about 5 minutes later. He gave me a 10 yard shot and I put it right through the heart. He went less than 50 and was down!! It had been almost 13 years since I took a buck with my bow and I couldn't be happier with this buck. It won't score too high but it was a perfect scenario since my twin boys are up here with me...I'll get a quick score on him tomorrow morning!
Hey hey hey, that's a good looking deer, congratulations! Who cares about points, he looks like a big deer! Besides, point wise, it's better than a lone doe or a goose egg.
