We're down into the 40s at night, but staying around 70 for the high. I didn't start until late October last year (my first time hunting out here), so this seems super warm to be out hunting. I've got a last minute stand to put up Sunday and then I'll be ready to rumble on the 27th.
Given the deer I've been getting on camera, I'm awfully tempted to give it a go earlier than I generally start. I've got a lot to do though and damn it's getting warm in the afternoons still in the 60's at night. I don't know.
Checked out our other spot. A ton of deer sign that looks promising. But it's such a drive (30-45 mins) that with a new puppy, I don't know if I'll be able to do that. Got some small bucks on camera behind my house...no cameras on this other property, so a shot in the dark. Decisions. I'd just love to get something right out my back door.
I drive 1.5 hrs in Pa and 2.5 to my Ohio spot. I understand not being able to but I would love a 30-45 drive . I am leaving at 4:15am tomorrow morning for a 7am sunrise.
Got skunked this morning. Sat until 10am until my back starting hurting. The white oak I was set up buy had the woods sounding like it was raining it was dropping so many acorns but only squirrels and chipmunks showed up. Too hot this afternoon plus I need to service my truck to get it ready for making Ohio runs starting next weekend.
Oh Coop, I'm not dedicated enough to do a drive like that! Congrats buck! Nice were getting on the board...moving on up! Got my bow sighted in today. Were about ready in this house!
Congrats on the doe! PinkPony glad you got your bow sighted in. A couple more weeks for regular season in Pa.
Nice work Buck Master! I'm heading out tonight after this nice 10...been walking this runway twice in the last few days hopefully he does that again this evening
Nope he didn't walk by tonight. Did have a fawn around me for a while tonight and also saw a couple raccoons. Back at it tomorrow morning.
I went and checked my residential camera today...does and fawns, like usual. The bucks show up during the rut and hang out most of the winter.
Looks good man! Ready for next weekend? I m heading to my friend's farm on Friday in NE Ohio. We have a few nice bucks and a pile of does on camera at several stand sites. Hoping to at least see some deer.
I'm beyond ready! I'll be in this stand on Saturday afternoon, looking for a doe. Then I'm headed 2 miles away to hunt bucks Sunday afternoon. I also just hope to see deer.
Unless something changes, I'm planning on a morning hunt tomorrow over on the farm where I got pics of the bucks I named Boom and Crossbow. Tons of deer over there, I dare not expect to even see one of those big boys but maybe I'll get a close encounter with a doe at least. I got the old Element out tonight and shot around in the yard. My release had worn in a bit and was no longer reliably holding trigger. I punched myself in the face the first time it prematurely fired while drawing. I grabbed an allen wrench and adjusted it and it worked like new the rest of the evening. Seemed to be shooting pretty well so fingers crossed.
