I was deathly afraid of snakes too. I started with 1 baby corn snake and got more comfortable as he grew. They are actually very cool animals with their own personalities.
I'll take your word for it....haha.....i guess when we win the contest we know who's house we are not having the victory party at!
Our seasons in both MO and KS opened yesterday morning but I've not been out. Don't know when I'll start, with the deer I had on camera this morning I may start earlier than normal for me. I bought all my tags yesterday morning online, three in KS and four in MO. Boom makes 10 deer in total on my 2014 hitlist, maybe 11 but have one remaining I can't get an age on. Check out Boom:
Wow, with a deer like that walking around, I'd be tempted to spend every waking hour in a stand waiting for him to walk by! You've definitely got some great deer by you, hopefully one of them makes a mistake and walks by you sometime.
I generally wait until around Oct 15th to start hunting, I guess I got used to that back when it was the old MO start date but the skeeters ain't generally as big a problem by then. I have a thermocell though so may brave it and begin early. Besides I have a lot of population control to manage this year (sex ratios). A few generally do get wreckless
So yesterday I saw a spike buck, a fawn, and a good size doe in the morning. The do got spooked before she even got close enough by something in the field. Yesterday evening I saw 1 doe and took a shot on her and shot right over her back(dang it). This morning I saw the same little spike buck and that was it this morning.
Patience and breathe! Though it's easy for me to say, I missed my only chance last year two times, lol. But I'll never forget to look in a peepsite again! Hopefully the doe comes back out tonight!
I've actually never had a pet snake, but I was never afraid of them. I was the kid who always caught black and garter snakes and chased my friends around them them haha.
Yeah no peep sight on an open sight recurve. If she doesn't come back there are others. I didn't make it out tonight, won't again till Friday when the moon starts to fade and when the storms are done rolling through.
I hunted with and built recurves and longbows for a lot of years before my two back surgeries. I still shoot a few of my light weight ones in the yard but I can't shoot a weight I feel comfortable with for hunting anymore. Good luck if you get out Friday!
That's about the size of my most consistent buck...he's a shooter this year because of the baby shortened season.
Yeah it is supposed to be a high 74 tomorrow with a low of 50 tonight. Not exactly deer hunting weather but I am not passing up a morning in the stand after waiting all year lol.
I feel y'all today is suppose to be 85 at 4 and dropping to 74 after sunset. I really did end up going out and buying some ultra lite camo long sleeve shirts. They arnt too bad as long as I'm in shade.
I don't think we hit 85* all summer, let alone now. It's been getting in 40's at night. Husband is out putting tree stands up today while I'm at work. Told him to pull my camera cards, too. I haven't had time to go back out. So hopefully something is on them. Going to shoot the bow and (fingers crossed) get it sighted in. Pulled out my old bow as a "just in case".
