Thats a odd situation! I always wondered how a bullhead or similar broadhead would penetrate if they hit the body. Definitely less than desirable results. Congrats on a great bird!

Little update for myself. I have been hunting around 4 days a week, and slowly we are getting closer to shooting a bird. Up here where we hunt is super super pressured, and the birds are definitely smart. Yesterday morning we finally got turkeys in the decoys, sadly it was just hens and a jake. We actually had the hens land in the decoys off the roost which was pretty cool to see. Also, there was two toms but we just couldn't get them to come in. I think next time we are gonna leave the jake decoy and only use hens. Of the two toms they both look nice, but when they hung up at 40 yards it was easy to see that one is double bearded. Hopefully luck turns around soon! Getting closer and learning each time.

No luck for me yet. Opening morning I struck out as the birds I was hunting went to the neighbors field instead. My buddy ended up shooting a double bearded tom with 22'' of total beard! I sat this morning with a friend and filmed him shoot a tom. Awesome video but shot was a bit low, heading back out to look for him again now. I'll post the video later if i get around to it.

Took my brother out and he was able to get his first bird. Now it's time for me to get after them. [IMG]

Ya I was surprised too! I thought for sure he'd have a bobble head barely connected but not the case. I think I just got a little excited with the shot and made a mistake.

Although to continue the story, I'm pretty sure he's alive. I shot another tom last Friday, 4/14, and it wasn't the one that got away. I got picks of a 3rd tom the next day on my camera so there's still at least one around. Couldn't tell from the pic if he was missing any meat but it's most likely him. Maybe this weekend I'll find out! 2nd tom was smaller than my first though. 8" beard and no spurs at all. He would have only scored about 36 so the first bird stays in the books. Gongrats to your little brother! I took my brother-in-law out opening morning and he was first on the trigger. Never a bad thing to take care of family first!

I shot one a couple years ago right at the beard with a Muzzy MORE. Knocked him on his can but he got up and flew away. He landed in a tree on property I didn't have access to but I watched him for half an hour before he flew down to the other side of the property. He didn't appear to be too much the worse for wear.

It was my mistake, I had been coaching my Mom on shot placement for standard broadheads and when the moment came I blew it.

Great looking bird! I think I will be able to get out for the last time this saturday. With finals and everything right around the corner I have been very busy. Finals are next week, then it's back to Nebraska for friday night, then to Utah to work with Ruffed and Dusky Grouse for the summer.

On the board opening morning with the bullhead! Couldn't find the charger for my camera last night so of all hunts to not film this shouldn't have been it! They put on a show, I slung a few arrows (long story, should have doubled) and I punched a tag! 22.2lbs 9.25" beard, 3/4" Spurs. I'll hold off on entering the score, should be able to find a 3+ year old with some better spurs, but the weight will be hard to beat. [IMG][IMG]

Congrats guys! I'm heading out in the morning, saw 14 birds just out of range this morning but I moved the blind closer to the roost so I'm hoping it all finally comes together tomorrow
