Husband and cousin put a new stand up for me. Seems they're all seeing deer along fields. Going to let it settle down and I'll go there on Saturday. It's along the edge of a freshly picked bean field.

Could have shot a deer this morning - without even getting out of my jammies. Let the dog out this morning and he took off (insert freaking out face) - I see a deer butt jumping through the ditch. Must have been eating the apples from the apple tree 10 yards from the front porch.

Apparently. I'll be sure to look before. Though, I'm pretty sure it wont be coming back because of the dog.

IMG_7590.PNG Well now my season is 2/3 of the way to being a full success. Yesterday afternoon my son shot this nice 11 pt with an extra kicker growing out of his forehead. I'll post better pics of the crazy unicorn point later as we forgot to take any close ups of it last night.

Another report, to report...nothing. Hit the morning at a local state park for a quick hunt. Squirrels only club today.

    IMG_7593.JPG Here's the Unicorn point

The deer scored 137 4/8" and had roughly 4" broken off of his LG2.

Got booted off my old go-to spot. The land owner decided to start charging each hunter to hunt there. I've hunted it for the last five years. I harvested my first doe there last year. So, with that being said - tree stand was put on a different chunk that we were given permission for. It's another along a field. If I can make it home in time I'll be running out there to hunt this evening. Calling for rain tomorrow and back to mid 80's Saturday. Hunting duck opener Saturday morning.

Bought my Oklahoma hunting license the other day. I'm literally a three minute drive from Oklahoma. I'm going to give these small Kansas properties a break and go hunt a large Oklahoma farm. Have a spot picked overlooking a creek and right next to some old acorn trees. I'm going to try it out Saturday morning.

Also, from my experience you buy a hunting license and then additionally you buy your tags. Well in Oklahoma, you pay $280 for a non resident tag and then they issue you six tags. Two bucks, four does. I was shocked by that to be honest. What are your states like regarding tags, licenses, etc?

In Wisconsin. Buy a license, they hand you a buck tag and however many doe tags are available for that county. Then after some time they open the doe tags up for purchase if they have room left in the management plan.

Ugh. Totally over this hunting season and it just started. The new stand that was hung, on woods we had permission for, was just taken down. Husband hunted there this morning and land owner told him that that section was off limits. Um. Could have told us that when we originally got permission...so all the scouting was a waste. Down to my original stand that has only had one doe on it in a week. /sigh. Really over this area for hunting. Almost worth out of state leases.

In Kentucky our counties are assigned a Zone (1-4).

Kentucky is of course a 1 buck state. When you buy your tags you get 2. You buy your extra tags 2 at a time for $15. Any one tag can be used for a buck whether its the first deer you tag or the 50th.

Zone 1 counties are allowed unlimited does.
Zones 2 and 3 counties are allowed 4 deer total. The only difference between Zones 2 and 3 is that Zone 3 has a shorter rifle season in Nov.
Zone 4 counties are allowed 4 deer as well but only 2 can be killed with a firearm and there are only a couple of days where a doe can be shot with a firearm. With the EHD devastation in Eastern KY (which unfortunately is where most of the less populated Zone 4 counties are) I have heard that they are considering cancelling the rifle season this year. Even if they don't I'm not sure why a person would even consider killing a doe out there unless they needed the meat for their family. Some counties have already had reported EHD cases that exceed the annual average deer harvest for that county. Eastern KY will be a decade recovering from this disaster from a deer population perspective.

I think it costs about $260 for NR license and tags (which is way too cheap considering that they are over the counter).

Residents pay $60 for license and deer tags or you can just pay $95 for a Sportsman's license that covers fishing and some other hunting tags etc.

Kristen it costs $260 for KY license/tags and then you got hotel/gas money. Get your hubby to bring you down here for a few days sometime between 10/23 and 11/1 and you will set some arrows loose. You are right... you are probably better off for 2 or 3 days somewhere like KY versus a whole season of just about anywhere in PA. I had a couple buddies come down from PA last weekend. Each of them took a doe and they saw as many as 10 bucks from the stand on some hunts. They were not looking forward to returning to PA hunting.

He hunts NY yearly and we have gone to IL a few times. This state isn't the best for hunting. Don't get me wrong, there are some nice deer - but way too many hunters. So, unless we can find a large section of land to buy or lease - it's going to be like this yearly. If we had vacation, I'd suggest the KY thing - I have an uncle that has a lake house somewhere down there. It's not too terrible of a drive.
