I'm guessing it's ruined, when I turned it right side up water poured out of the battery compartment. It wouldn't be so bad but of course it's the one camera I wanted to check because it was where I was just starting to get my new #1 coming it to my Plot right at legal shooting light in the am. With the cold front that moved through I wanted to see if he change his pattern to evenings or still just morning. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
We are on the board! Killed a doe this morning on public land. It was 88 degrees and I am glad I had a buddy along as we had to cross a narrow tupelo swamp to get her back to the truck. I'm to old and fat for much of that!
Awesome, KY!! In temps like that, do you take it to a processor or quickly do it yourself? Entry looks good. It's not mandatory - but if you'd like to list your equipment info add that to your entry.
I quarter them up in hot weather. I put the meat in a large cooler and flush with cold well water for an hour or so and then fill with ice. I keep the backstraps and inner loins. I then take the rest to a local butcher to have burger ground. I can leave it in the cooler a few days as long as I keep fresh ice. I sometimes bone it out before taking it to the butcher as they procees by the pound. I didn't even gut this doe since I had to drag it through dirty water and the mosquitoes and horse flies were horrible. I just dragged this doe to the truck and then hung it in the garage. Skin, remove backstrap and shoulders, flank and neck meat then reach in and get inner loins . Cut backbone at the pelvis and drop guts and all in a trash can. Then I just remove the hams and I'm done. Takes about 15 minutes once on the gambrel.
Congrats on the doe KY72! I just got back from Georgia and it was bad luck after bad luck, We have two properties to hunt about 30 minutes apart in Georgia. So got to the better of the two properties Friday morning and just sat down in the stand, not 10 minutes later a huge tractor comes through about 100 yards away and starts cutting trees down and continued to clear cut the neighboring property all weekend, so I stuck to hunting our other property and seen a couple does on night sits but they wouldn't come close enough for a shot. On my last sit I was sitting in the stand and I heard a pop, look down and one of my limbs on my bow cracked right down the middle So now to get that fixed, re-tuned and hopefully back in the woods next month...
Oh no, that is bad luck. Any idea why your limb cracked? Thankfully you weren't shooting when it happened.
Went out yesterday in a ground blind In confiscated that trespassers left on my families property. Found out a one man shotgun blind doesn't work well. Actually, it doesn't work at all. Two deer came in a and picked me off immediately. The with d then shifted and three more deer winded me over the course of he evening. There was still 39 minutes left of shooting light when I got out. I couldn't even draw my bow back without hitting the blind. My arrow was hanging out of the bow with the bow in my hand. Won't be doing that again and probably ruined the spot. I have a friend of mine coming in to hunt with me Saturday. I am getting him into hunting so this will be his first bow hunt. Should be fun.
Update from my side. I still haven't hunted yet. All of our big deer have been almost exclusively nocturnal so far. The couple of shooters that have been showing up some in daylight and that I possibly could have hunted I have let my buddy lay claim to since he has never killed a PY deer. He has only hunted twice and the target bucks were no show both times. Now this blistering heat has set in and the rains from the two hurricanes have spawned 342 gozillion mosquitoes. I'm not fighting the heat so it's looking like I may nearly close out September without having hunted. We will see. This does not paint a very good picture for me given that I have not killed a buck after September since 2007 but I guess I'll have to cowboy up and grind it out and try to get something done since the deer and the weather aren't cooperating this year so far. I can kill a doe any time I want to fool with one so that won't be an issue as we have farms that are absolutely inundated with does. I'll get my 50 and hope for more.
My bow is a Bowtech RPM 360, and the limb cracked on it last year about a month before season, bowtech fixed it for free thought it was just a fluke. Now a year later and another limb cracked even worse this time I'm done with it! I just dropped the bow off this morning at the shop, said the bow will be fixed in a week, gonna hunt it the rest of the season and sell it!!
Did some last minute preparations and checked cams for the last time before season. Got a nice 9 pointer I'd consider taking on my new property and some good young bucks and does. One more series of the king without velvet. He is the only deer I have ever gotten pictures of that doesn't look smaller after velvet comes off. All night pictures of him the last month but he will show himself at some point just have to be in the area at the time. I'm ready and looks like a 20 degree cool down for opening day if that happens I'll be out. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
There's a good chance this is my buck this year too, because if I see it I'm shooting it. Would prefer for him to be my bonus deer but I won't pass him. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
My buddy took down this one yesterday afternoon in 90 degree heat. His first P&Y and first buck in 8 years. My season is a long way toward being a success now.
