Yeah if it would have been the other neighbor I'd be pissed but the neighbor that got him was a groomsman in my wedding so you can say we get along pretty well haha. He shot him 100 yards away from his house. I have the spot marked where he was sitting using an old building for a blind. The buck must have been living in the trees by his house and barely moved, cover, water and an ag field right there. Crazy how the big ones can be right under your nose, I saw him once in daylight and outside of cam pics he saw him once also. Oh and the gravel road is a main county road that gets quite the traffic during harvest. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Went out there last night to drop off the sheds I have to him from last year and put the tape to him and he came out to 177" even. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
It's crazy how fast summer went. Some of you are already hunting and I am looking at two weeks and one day from today. Good luck guys.
Since you posted the instructions on how to score a buck I'm interested to know what you think of the "suspect" entry that's already been made. How far off do you think he is?
Honestly, I don't even pay attention. If you see something you think is off, best bet is to PM Fitz. He can then handle it how he sees fit.
Going out tomorrow afternoon for my second hunt of the year. First hunt of the year on this property. It has a couple nice 10 pointers that I would be pleased to take. My stand is more of an observation point that overlooks a large crp field. I just want to see some deer move into the field or get up from bedding in the field so I can see where I need to set up to get on one. Got terrible news yesterday. My uncles and aunt have decided to auction off my deceased grandparents land that had been in our name for 150+ years. That means I will not be hunting Ohio this year. Got some good news. I live right on the Kansas/Oklahoma border and have a couple friends from church who are going to let me hunt on their properties in Oklahoma. So I might be hunting a second state after all. Best thing is in Oklahoma you can take two bucks!!!
Two does this morning. One was almost chocolate color. That was cool. Give it about an hour more then off to get ready for a bday party.
Saw some turkeys. Gonna walk around the back side and change some cards in the cams. Good luck to anyone else out.
Some chipmunks and a hawk this morning. Heard a ruckus behind me but nothing to be seen. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
That's a shame about the land. They don't make anymore of it. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Glad you're all seeing some deer. Found my spot today. Actually is a spot we never had a camera. My #1 spot died off. So husbands uncle showed us this new spot and the sign is amazing. Hopefully it pays off (and that I can find it!!).
Glorious evening for a sit. Remembered the thermacell tonight. Almost got carried out of here yesterday.
Going to try and get out tomorrow afternoon. It will be the third hunt of the season and first on this property. Trying to space out hunting spots so that I don't overhunt any one property. When I checked the camera last week I had a 3 year old 8 pointer and 2 1/2 year old 9 pointer coming in daylight almost every day. Both looked to me to be somewhere near 120inches give or take a few inches. If the three year old pops out tomorrow I'm probably taking the shot. Biggest deer on my wall is 128inches so I'm not at a point in my hunting career where I'm content passing 120inch deer. Maybe in a year or two but not yet
Good luck if you get out, Joe. My husband asked me last night if I'm going to shoot the first legal buck I see. I said, no - if I can tell it's a young deer I'm going to let it walk. He told me I didn't need to and just shoot whatever makes me happy. However, I still feel that I'll pass on anything "small". Not because I am out trophy hunting - but because I know what this property can produce if given time. We will see when I am actually faced with a buck in front of me though. My farthest shot from this spot is 10 yards. It's going to be tight shooting - but I'm in a funnel. On the edge of a ravine - water below - apples and bedding above. Both within' 50-100 yards. Hoping it'll pan out in my favor. Looks like they're milling in this area before venturing off anywhere. Tons and tons of rubs all over and a few scrapes. It's going to be one heck of a rut spot.
Went to check my camera on my Plot last night. Very disappointed, was sitting for two weeks we had a day and a half soaker rain to go with the first true cold front this Friday and Saturday. However the first night after I checked the camera a moose rubbed on the t post I had the camera on and bent the holder so the camera was poor bring straight down to the ground. A camera that averages about 500 pics a week of deer had 5 with 3400 pics of the ground and it filled up with water since it was upside down and the camera was und r a month old. Scouted over the weekend again. I'm ready for the season to start and temps to drop. Got a massive 6 on camera with a few other bucks. Been shooting the bow a bunch and looking good so, it's all coming together.
Ouch, I thought I had it bad with the raccoons! Sucks when you are lookin forward to checking a camera only to have it not function like it should for whatever reason. Is the camera ruined I take it? I bet they company will replace it being that new Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
