Opening day is Saturday September 12th here in Georgia, Ill be at My farm in My box stand in a hardwood flat next to a big clear cut. Gonna try out the new crossbow , Would love to break it in on a big fat nanny doe. Id take a buck too if one on the hit list comes by. Ill post in the live from the stand thread that morn and will keep Yall updated if I have any luck
October 1st is the opener for me. Probably won’t hunt until mid October. There is an early doe season this year sept 19&20. Might try to get out then if it’s not too hot.
I’m self taught. I used to make movies on 8mm as a kid, as soon as digital editing became a thing I just picked it up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cell cam was clicking this morning. I don’t know if I’d arrow this dude, I think he needs a year to really blossom. I call him Massy Ferguson. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm heading down to KY today to fertilize the food plots and plant rye if needed. We usually don't see shooter's on trail cams until the end of October. I'm hoping this year will be different since we should have food for them. I probably won't hunt until October.
So what bow does everyone shoot out of curiosity? I splurged this year after 10 years with my mathews switchback and went with the VXR. The switchback was very hard to replace but she still hangs on the wall. I wont ever sell that one!
1998 hoyt powertec that was a hand me down from my step dad. Have a qad ultra rest, cheaper tru glo sight. Grave digger hybrid broad heads and 400 beman ics arrows. Wanted to mess around with trying to get a heavier arrow set up but didn’t have time to mess with it this year. Or the money lol. I’ve been wanting to upgrade my bow for a few years both with 4 kids there’s always somewhere else for the money to go. One of these days though. I’m thankful for what I have
been shooting a Mathews Z7 extreme for going on 8 years and see no need to change, love it . I did just got a new cross bow to hunt with some
I know the struggle bud its real! Blew my mind how much a new one cost now a days with everything added. I'll die with this bow definitely my last one to purchase. I dont discriminate in what you shoot as long as it hits pump stations its great in my book!
I don’t discriminate against what others shoot either. If someone has a $2000 bow good for them. If someone goes out and buys a brand new $300 bow, good for them. Just about the opportunity and time in the woods. I just know the newer ones are probably quieter and have a better draw cycle etc but the old power tec will still get it done.
Halon 32. Had a 60lb halon x comp and it shot awesome that I shot paper and 3D with, not very forgiving with a tension release but taught me a lot. I love the specs of the traverse and may end up with one next year. I put a lot of arrows through bows and after two or three years of abuse, I can’t help but think about cam bearings after the rain and snow and so many arrows. (Just a paranoid maintenance man and washed up motocross racer) I shoot too much and chew through strings on a single cam bow where they roll up on the module. But... if I didn’t shoot so much, I’d like a Z7 magnum. Really want to shoot a realm X or Sr6, just afraid of the limbs, and I’ve always wanted to shoot an Obsession.
If it’s the powertec that I’m thinking of, they really haven’t changed the riser much and that bow was money in its day.
A guy in My hunt club got a new obsession last fall, he kept bragging about it so I asked if I could try it out. I flung a few arrows and it shot nice but Ill stick with My old Z7 x , Shes like my old trusty mutt , just feel confy with her.
I honestly still haven't even shot a broadhead with the VXR, still contemplating what to get. Ive always shot fixed, mechanical just isn't for me I've had errors. I've used the muzzy 3 blade and 4 blades the last 5 years id say. I just think they'll drift with the new bow but only one way to find out so ill sling some arrows tomorrow while I'm building the ground blind!
Accuracy is very good. They make them in right and left bevel. When I build new arrows (disclaimer: I don’t know if this makes a damn bit of difference) I bareshaft tune and also check direction of rotation. These spun right so I bought right bevel single bevels and 4 fletched a slight right offset. I shot magnus black hornet 4 blades last year and after shooting these, I’ll never go back to a vented blade broad head. Super quiet. But, I’ve never had problems with rage trypans. So we’ll see
