Man, I haven't been out yet. I've been stuck at work and this weekend I won't be able to make it out either. However the weekend of the 17th I will be able to do some huntin. I'm very much looking forward to it. Until then, I'll continue to go crazy....

Well guys, I finally got to go hunting this past weekend. It was nice to be in the stand that's for sure. I saw some does but didn't see a single buck. I picked out the biggest doe in a group of 7 or 8 but she never came in close enough, none of them did. Anyway, it was still great to be hunting.

This Friday, I'm headed to some public land about an hour and a half north of my house.

    Anyone else having any luck?

Getting to be that time of the year around here.

Reports are coming back from the woods that the bucks are ramping up for the rut.

Driving me nuts, almost feel like I pulled the trigger to early :D

Well I went hunting 3 times over the days I was off work. I saw deer each time. Yesterday I had a decent 10 point within 5 yards. I drew on him but didn't shoot. I didn't think he would meet the 13 inch minimum spread for the county I was hunting. I won't be able to get back out there until the 13th.

Thought I did this already, but don't see it anywhere.

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!

    awesome buck, ummm Buck :D

Looking forward to reading the story.

Deer around here (from what I hear, no more hunting for me this season, have to live vicarously through other peoples stories) are hit or miss right now, either you are in them and it is incredible, or you aint, and it is dead (no deer)

Congrats again Buck, and good luck to the rest of the team.

    That is an awesome buck!

I gotta start doin my part in our little conest here.
I'm goin out Friday for a long morning hunt. I'd hunt all day but I gotta work nights. I'm really upset that I can't hunt all this week cause I know those deer are running all over the place.

Great job guys, keep it up!

Deer down! Finally closed the deal yesterday on a very respectable 10 pointer... trying to upload photos but it says the file is too big. I'll try again when I get a chance... I'm working shift work this week.

    2009 Northwestern Ontario Archery Buck

Closed the deal on Tuesday (Dec 1st)... Saw two other smaller bucks and almost shot a decent 8 pointer but decided to pass... I'm glad I did. Not long after, this guy shows up trailing two does.

25 yard shot quartering away... shot felt and looked good. He took off and I thought I heard him crash.

After 15 minutes got out of the stand... no arrow... no blood... snowing out... wondering if I didn't hit where I thought I did. Started tracking due to the snow... very little blood for awhile... then a little more and a little more. I looked up and he was right there... didn't even go 50 yards.

The arrow actually went through the off shoulder and just pierced the hide on the far side but didn't come all the way through.

I haven't got a chance to put a tape on him yet, but I'll let you know when I do.

***UPDATE*** Green scored him at 153 5/8 gross.

    AWESOME BUCK!!!!!!!

    So, how cold was it?

Do love bowhunting in the snow and call me a masochist, but the cold weather is enjoyable also.

You put him on a scale?

What kind of broadhead do you use? I ask, because I am 5 for 5 on my last few deer, using a rage 3-blade, all 5 dropped within sight (well one I heard but only went about 50 yards) and all 5 had slim to no blood (all 5 were pass thrus also)

    Thanks Wiaxle,
It was about -10 celcius (14 degrees F) and snowing... not too bad for this time of year really.

I didn't weigh him, but I've weighed other deer in the past and if I had to make an educated guess I'd put him just under 300 lbs on the hoof.

I've been shooting Rage 2 blades for a few years now (on deer only). This is the first time I didn't get a pass through... but he still only went 40 yards. They haven't let me down yet.

Great Job Kannuck!!! That thing is massive!

Fellas, hunting has been slow for me, but I'm still out there every single chance I get.

You all are doing a superior job!

600+ hours for the buck I took in 2008 (over 3 seasons)

Probably closer to 700 but who is counting.

less than 20 hours for the buck I took in 2009.

All you can do is get out in the woods, and be prepared for the shot when it finally comes.

Good luck to everyone that is still out there.

    Thanks fellas!
I get off work at 7 in the morning and I'll be headed to the woods. It's my only chance to hunt for a few days plus I haven't been to this area in a few weeks. It's the same area where I passed on that buck earlier in the season. Hopefully something will happen.
