I'm heading up to the hunting area tomorrow to set some cameras. I will also begin preparing some stand locations as I have a least a half dozen new spots I will be trying this Fall. The MN opener is Sept 15th.

Cooter I hope you get some STUDS!

Woody, can't wait to see your pictures!

I focused on elk this morning. Found lots of sign but the country was just not huntable. The ridge tops were covered in blowdown and head high bushes. The hill sides were so thick that you couldn't thread an arrow further than 5 yards. It was have been impossible to get an elk out. I ended up logging in 10.2 miles. I'm whooped!

Hey guys, got our first one in the scorecard.. I hope all of you are getting gear up and ready, I know DAVE IS HUNTING too.. hope you get on a good one Dave, sucks about your steps, lowlife mo-fos like that... I just don't get. I dang near killed another big velvet buck last night... low light on the camera, I let him walk 30 broadside standing still.. really wanted to get it on film, and being that I already have one down I can be a little more picky.. Hope I get another crack at this deer soon. Got elk opening up tomorrow in WA. and then the 6th in Idaho.. so I will spend a little more time trying to fill the freezer in those two states with elk too! 2 more buck tags to fill by Dec 24th.. looking forward to what our team racks up guys, i've went through the entire thread, you guys have some very nice bucks your after... dang... DAN you have some real hammers man. Hope you drill one of them.. Will check back in a lot more now that I go back to teaching school tomorrow.. desk time versus logging, gives me much more time on puter! Ok out the door to try and kill that other big boy..he was still in full velvet last night got some good footage of him till it got dark.. he took his sweet freeging time working my way... dirty buggar.. I had to bugle and cow call like a herd of elk moving in to get him to leave.. so I could climb out in the dark.. :)
    worked good.. no spooky...

Ended up deciding to bag the idea. got very, very minimal interest. To hard on a site dominated by these mid-western boys:lol:

Well, since some *******s decided to mess with my stand I have to start over at square one. Heading out tomorrow night to glass over a very good basin that looks to be holding some deer. Same basin the buck came out of the other morning that I passed.

Tough this fall. This is the driest I have seen this part of the country in a while. Stalking will be a no-go for a while so I will have to retire to a tree.

Weekends will be solely dominated by elk. However, getting off at 2PM has some serious benefits (i.e. getting to hunt every afternoon:lol:)

    Great pics Woody!

Good to see your name on the scorecard first Troy! Congrats again on that awesome buck. Sounds like you're on them good this year man. I look forward to seeing the video when the boys put it out. Good luck on the elk soon too.

Dave, sucks you have to start over. I've got confidence you'll get it done bro. Its early.....really early!

My weekend we spend working around the house and hanging with the wife and kids. We were going to head to the cabin this weekend and hang a couple stands on the bean fields, but it was crazy hot and Jill didn't want to do it. I'll make a run up there this week sometime and get it done. Only 12 more days and the season starts here......I'm getting itchy!

That sucks that some idiot was messing with your setup Backcountry, keep your head up. I am excited that you guys are already hitting the woods, but I am not going to lie, I am jealous!! Oct 1st is the opener for me, and it looks like I still plan on taking off Thursday the 4th and hunting until the 7th down in IL. I figured why not give it a try that early in the season. Not hunting the woods here in MI early in the season when most of these mature bucks are nocturnal I feel will increase my odds of shooting a good buck here. Shed, it sounds like your season is off to an incredible start. So you self film I take it? I would love to gain some information from you about self filming and your equipment setup.

Woody, look at all those bucks!!! Good luck man.

Found some good stuff last night and several new stand locations. Few hard horned bucks and another bear! Going to go hang a set on thursday.

I don't know if anyone saw FITZ's thread but we will be getting alternates to make up for our missing members on Saturday. I will be in the elk woods that whole day. Would anyone like to take the reigns and be our voice so we get it on the newbies:whip:

Good to hear you found some new stand locations Dave!

    Good luck this weekend TD!

I'll probably be busy most of the day too. Not a big deal when you let Fitz know about our no show, he's leaving the thread open for a few days.

    Kinda quiet here boys!

Any updates? I'm heading to the cabin tomorrow to hand a couple new sets. The patterns are changing and my one bean field is maturing so I have to adapt and move some stands to accommodate for them hitting the other bean field more now. One week from tomorrow!!

Yeah Dan. Just so God Dang excited that I can barely stand myself. Heading out tomorrow for a morning hunt on opening day here. Going to sit in the set I hung last week and hoping for the best. The wife is in Sweden all next week so no hunting for me after tomorrow till the following week. Thankfully the following week I am working the 3-11 shift so morning hunts all week for me. I'd love to put down a doe early so I can sit back and wait on a good buck. Will try to update from the stand if I have enough signal.

    Eric
