I have my buck tag left for bow and shotgun in illinois. So far I have filled my doe tag for both bow and gun. I am planning to get back out the weekend after thanksgiving hopefully I can put a big buck down then and get some more points for the team.

Its almost doe time for me, can't wait. I'll probably hunt some over thanksgiving during rifle season then go real hard in December. Time for team overkill to make our push!!

    Needed a break

OK guys so my struggles are not a secret. Rifle season opened last week so I needed a little confidence boost and had to get some meat in the freezer. I went out Last Friday for a little rifle hunt. Saw one real early and told myself the first deer that goes broadside goes down. Well about 7:30 this little buck came out Had a good 75 yd shot. The shot felt great and took a quick jump into the thicket. Decided to give him a few minutes to make sure he had expired when a little doe stepped out at 165 across the field. She nosed around and looked over her shoulder. A minute later a larger doe came out and gave me a great broadside shot. Took the shot and it buckled her right to the ground. I went and picked her up and after a quick tracking job I found that the little buck only went 12 yds.

So, sorry for the rifle talk here but it was well needed to get in a positive hunt with good results. Bottom line is there is two deer in the freezer and now I can turn my focus back to the bow. I tell you though after spending time with the bow, the rifle hunt felt easy and honestly was a tad boring. I am officially hooked on bow hunting. Gotta take a few days off for the holidays but will be getting a lot of shooting time in. No worries though boys as I still have 3 doe and 1 buck tag left. Season ends January 1st so there is plenty of time to get it done. Stay at it boys. Like already mentioned I think we're about to make a push to the front.

I was talking to the guy that does our bush hog work and is a known horn hunter. He said while out running the tractor he saw a great shooter buck. I've not seen him yet but we're gonna get in plenty of time in the stand in the coming weeks.
