Here to check in. Been out of town all weekend. sorry for being a slack a$@ and not checking in sooner. Got a small lease in NC that I'll be hitting starting Sept 8th. First time hunting there for me but its a long time lease a friend brought me in on. I have a bit of vacation saved up so I am planning on spending quite a bit of time out there. Sure hope to hold up my end of things guys. New bowhunter but have been a long time rifle hunter. I am pretty excited to get out there and do a little deer shankin'. As Pig Man would say....It's fixin to be tragic. lol

First, welcome to the team Tyler. Big fan of Fight Club?

Now that Tyler checked in, of the other 4 guys only runnin_gunnin24 is a on time poster. The other three guys are regular posters. Well, shed used to post a lot, but has been busy lately. I'm sure he'll be in here from time to time.

Thanks for the nomination guys, but I've done the captain thing a couple of times and would love to see one of you guys do it.

    Maybe Backcountry, Cooter or Purebowhunting.

I'd be interested in captain if I wasn't going to be without internet access for the next two weeks, anyone volunteer?

Since Paul will be gone getting a 180" jump on everyone and without internet, I say Backcountry can be captain.

    Backcountry works for me also.

Whats everyones doe situation? To compete in this contest it seem everyone wacking a doe is key, then the bucks will come. I hunt an area with a very high deer population, don't plan on a doe being much trouble.

    Thanks Guys! Honored

My doe situation is pretty good. They give out 5 doe tags in my immediate area and give us 5 months to fill them. I typically spot and stalk hunt for my does and average 2-3 per year using this method. I can almost guarantee one.

Buck situation. I am a know little buck killer, lol. I have put enough deer on the ground to start holding out, however. I put a 115" minimum on whitetail for myself. I also have a good mule deer permit so that may get put to good use. Currently watching to 140"+ whitetails that will be my targets this Saturday morning.

All that is left now is too pick our team name and get our logo worked up

Our fawn recruitment has been pretty low the last few years because of predators and we've elected not to shoot many does. Though, I'm one of the few who has shot one at the cabin each of the last 3 years. I'm sure I'll shoot one somewhere this fall.

    Anyone run trail cameras much?

I was able to get to the cabin and check 5 of the 7 cameras I have out, plus put out two more. Here's a mix of pictures from today's check and from the last couple weeks. Tons of bucks running around and a few solid ones.

This first one I call Nixon. I believe he may only be a 3 year old so it will be a heat of the moment decision if I shoot him. I really hope he doesn't walk by me and makes it through the season. He could really blow up next year. The first pic isn't the best, but if you look at some of the other pics you will see that the first three bucks I show you all came out the field in the same spot that evening.

This one is Hector. I would stick him in a heartbeat.

This one we call Stubby because of his half tail. I'd schwack him too.

The last one we simply call Big 8. We've had pics of him since 2008 and believe he's 7 years old. He lives on our north 120 which is about 1.5 miles from our main 400 that I hunt. Its big woods there and he'll be tough to hunt unless its the rut.

we have an abundance of does in NC so that should not be a problem. spotted 3 a couple weeks ago when we were moving a couple sets. its a new spot for me but each section of hardwoods has a nice field with tons of corn. really looks promising. will have to try to work on some names but I am digging overkill already.

Dan, I dont care if BIG 8 scores any less than any of the other bucks. I want to see you behind him this fall! What a total stud

No TC's for me. Just the good 'ol point and shoot for me on scouting trips. Sorry for the bad pic quality

    Buck #1
    [IMG]

#2 Beetlejuice. Based on his small head and huge body

These two are my targets but not necessarily the only thing i'll shoot. I'll try to hold out for something pushing the P&Y mark... but anything over 115" will likely get my attention.
