Going to give it another go in the morning. On 2nd this week so I hope to get a few morning hunts in this week. Hopefully Sandy won't cause too much trouble. I think we are going to be under it just enough so that it's impact is minimal. Muzzleloader opened this weekend so we will start seeing a little more pressure in the area. I really hope to get on the board this week. If anyone else is heading out, good luck.

I saw a nice 10 pointer from the stand Sunday evening but was out of range. I also have another good buck on camera. I'll be heading back to the hunting land on Thursday.

I'm a little suprised to see no does for our team so far? I would shoot one but I don't have a doe tag.

Man I tried but whiffed. lol

Didn't make it out this morning. While we are not getting the severe weather NY/NJ is, the wind here is terrible. Strong swirling gusts and I am not willing to risk a bad shot or ruining my spot getting busted. Tomorrow is not supposed to be any better but Wed-Thurs looks nice. I am hoping this weather will keep them down a couple days and that Wednesday will be prime hunting.

Weather report for tomorrow is looking good. Temps will be up to 55 with minimal wind. With the rut kicking in here this week I am really hoping for a good day. Going to bang it hard the remainder of the week and try to get on the board. Good luck to anyone else getting out.

Good luck Coot! I will be hunting does in late DEC/JAN in Montana ... but for now, I have 2 buck tags to fill in one in idaho and one in wash! If I dont fill one of those on a solid buck, I may take a doe in one of those states the last day of season.

Looks like everyone is hunting hard, deer will start hitting the ground! I'm headed back to Wisconsin Friday, I'll be behind the camera for my buddy but I'm taking my bow too and if a doe gives me an opportunity its hitting the ground. Best of luck guys, exciting time to be in the woods!

Ugh, I should be hunting tonight. Alas, I will be tomorrow.

Have a new tact I am anxious to try. Located a large group of deer last night with a dozen does and 6-7 bucks. 4 of the bucks, including one shooter were sparring fairly heavily for well over an hour. Problem being, the deer are about 100 yards on private. The public land leading up the the fence is comprised of heavier timber with good cover. The terrain also puts the fence at a high point. I can't see the deer unless I'm on the fence line, in other words.

I am planning on setting up for rattling and placing my doe head decoy out in front of me and away from the deer, trying to draw them past me. With all of the sparring activity I feel good about being able to draw one, if not all of the bucks over out of sheer curiosity. Never rattled from the ground with a bow so it should be an interesting night.

Sounds like an action packed hunt in your near future Backcountry. I always want to try rattleing from the ground, seems like you can make it a lot more realistic sounding. How good is the fence between public and private? I find a good fence can really funnel deer at times. Good luck.

What a buck!! Just an absolute beautiful rack, love that nice dark chocolate look, and awesome mass.Congrats!!!

Alright team, I had the craziest experience last week. My bow broke on me the night before I left for IL. I will never draw without my release again as I must have tweaked my wrist just enough to derail my string. The string got bound in the cam and it literally locked my bow up and I had to let it do what it was going to do....dry fire. I ended up going down to IL still since my friend was already planning on it. We saw 25 deer on one sit, tons of does, and a few smaller bucks. I also found this one dead in the bean field....... I'm not sure if he was a victim to EHD but what a shame!

Bow is fixed and I am heading back tomorrow night. I will be checking in often as I am going to be on a little vacation for the next 9 days, living in my treestand! I think this is going to be the week team 19 starts making a move, good luck guys!!

Sparrowhawk, sorry about the horrible luck with the bow, good to see you're rolling again. Nice find on the buck, just read an article about ehd and how if a deer has peeling hoofs it beat the virus. Not sure if deer that don't win the battle have the same symptoms or not, but something you could check into.
