Went out tonight...just some does....i have two sets that i am not touching until November 1st or Halloween i have bucks on camera just dinks though but a lot of does and where the does are the bucks will follow
Been having a lot of fun guys, yesterday morning had a 130 class nine come into 10 yards, had does on me so when I tried to turn the does spotted me and spooked, he followed, tonight I finally took a doe, then passed three bucks within 20 yards, one basked eight I have sheds from, also heard a snort weeze for the first time in my life, believe it was the old buck I posted pics of, he then chased a doe all over but passed me, one more day then headed to Ohio for next week. Ill get my doe pics posted tomorrow, 50 pts!
Got a few decent bucks on camera here are a few This is a smaller deer but really good mass This is a better deer but not a giant This is one of the deer I'm looking for at the set i just hung Finally this is a deer I call cow (for obvious reasons!!) he is a really old mature deer
Here are a few bucks I've been chasing this fall, the eight with split brows is the deer I had at 20 yards on Thursday, the more I look at him the more I wonder if it was the right decision to pass but he didn't look real big on the hoof. I had the nine with the sticker at the base at 10 yards Saturday but it came from behind and I had does feeding infront of me, while trying to turn on him the does spooked and he followed. A little eye candy if you're interested, all videos so click and enjoy!! Good luck guys.
I sat in my new set last Thursday evening. I didn't have have any deer up where I was expecting, but I can see down to my food plot from this stand. About 150 yards away. About 6:30, I spotted a nice buck feeding at the edge of the plot. I grunted at him a couple times, but he just ignored me. I gave him a couple more aggressive grunts. He lifted his head and looked my way. I gave a couple more, stuck his tail straight out and started walking with a purpose. He walked south, up a mowed path, and followed that path to the east. This trail is the same trail I walked in on. I was concerned he would pick up my scent, but he never did. He continued east up the trail until he stepped into the hedge row my stand was in. He came in at about 15-20 yards south of me and walked straight east, never giving me a shot because of the hedge row and a locust tree between me and him. He got about 40-50 yards east of me and I could hear him stomping around, looking for the intruder. Then, a snort/wheeze. That was the first time I've ever heard that in person. He jumped a fence, and proceeded to tear into a couple trees. I tried to bring him back w. my grunt call, but he never came back. If I had carried the decoy, he would certainly have seen it and came over for a fight. It was a pretty cool encounter. Other than that, my place has actually been pretty slow. I'm hoping it picks up soon, but there's still about 100 acres of standing corn about a half mile from my place, and I think there's a lot of deer held up in there. I'm hoping it comes out soon. They have combined the outside edge, but the majority is still standing. I did pick up a huge buck on my camera though. Picked him up in two different night.
Nice deer!! The bucks are starting to follow the does onto my property and I'm seeing a lot more bucks than did in October..Let the rut begin!!!
Sounds like a real fun encounter Skywalker, looks like we're all getting on deer just need to start closing the deal. Tough with the bow but it will happen, good luck everyone!
Well I blew it tonight. 6:35 I catch sight of a deer to the west coming my way down the fence for. He is walking right along the hedge row that I'm in, but as he gets closer he veers to his right out into the field. The field had beans planted this year, and now has winter wheat sprouting up. I have a pretty small window to shoot out into the field, so when he stepped into my window Had him at about 40 yards, but I guess he must have been a little further. I settled my pin in for a heart shot and pulled my release. I saw my luminock flying in his direction and he gave a small kick as the arrow pierced his skin. He took off to the east in a trot and stepped into edge of the timber and disappeared. I could hear him walking around in the timber just about 60 or 70 yards from me and I thought that was a good sign. I was thinking he was looking to bed down and hopefully expire. I waited about 30 minutes, gathered my gear and headed out into the field to take a look at my arrow. Picked it up, and there was not one singe spot of blood. At first I thought I missed him since there was no blood on my fletchings or arrow, but then I noticed my arrow was wet and I looked closer at the rage broadhead. I could see hair in the rage and there was fat smeard down the arrow. There was some red meat in the broadhead. I looked and looked for any sign of blood on the arrow and then on the ground. Nothing, on the other hand I suck at finding blood, especially when it is dark. I'm color blind. Best I can tell, I must have hit him low, just below the rib cage. The good news is, I believe it is just a flesh wound and he will be good as new sooner than later. I'm going back out in the morning to the point of impact just to make sure I wasn't missing something. Lesson learned: Don't rush. Use my range finder. Aim a bit higher, looking for a double lung so there's more room for error. I should have grunted at him. I was between this buck and my decoy. Live and learn I guess.
Any luck today Skywalker? Its all part of bowhunting, it a reason this sport is so fun because no matter what something can go wrong. I hit a big buck high last year, a neighbor shot him the next week chasing does, get back after him! Good luck!
That stinks man!!i will be going out in am to hunt and just got a few big bucks on camera!! Should be exciting!!!!!
Going out this morning to a stand where i got a big deer on camera yesterday...will keep everyone posted.....Good luck!!!
Well the deer i call cow was chasing a doe and i doe/buck grunted and he just looked then i snort weezed and he came on a mission but stopped at 50 yards everytime,,,so he wandered off and a fox came through and started eating my corn...i gave him a stern talking to with my muzzy
Nice kill, I hope to take a Fox and coyote with my bow someday, a goal of mine. Congrats! Sounds like a fun encounter with Cow sweet to have the big boys on there feet, keep after him!
I hope everyone is doing good! I am headed out this weekend with the bow again. Shot one with my powder gun and have one buck tag left, so hopefully I can get it done this weekend. If not I doubt I will shoot a buck with my bow because rifle season opens next weekend and well I'm more a gun hunter than anything else!! Best of luck everyone!
