Good luck to all of you hunting this weekend. I struck out in Wyoming and posted the story in the "Big Game" section if you're interested in reading it. Saw tons of game but never got on a shooter buck except the one time I already reported. Whacked a coyote but that doesn't count. :D Got a new grandson while I was there and that was the highlight of the trip. Saw lots of whitetails, mule deer, elk and antelope. Saw red fox, coyotes, coons and threw grasshoppers to brown trout feeding below my tree stand. Had to catch a few before climbing up in the tree :D. It was hot most of the week but a great time nonetheless. I won't be hunting now until mid to late October so stack'em up fellas!
There's a trout in the photo! :)[IMG]

While sitting in my stand it was in the 90's and I got a little bored early on so I tried to get pics of flies in my zoom lens...[IMG]

I planned on finishing work early enough for a midday hunt today but ended up getting sick with something that feels like a mild flu, so I came home and slept instead. I'm hoping I feel better so i can hunt tomorrow, I've got several does and a small group of buck frequenting the field I'm set up to hunt over so I should be able to get us at least 50 points soon, I've also got a lot of hogs that I hope don't ruin my hunts.

Good luck to you guys! Hope that bug goes away Chris!

Great pics Jerry! Would be cool to feed trout from the stand. Congrats on the grand baby. Sounds like an awesome trip to me.

Hunted last night for the first time with my 14 yr old son. Had a doe and spike come between our stands but neither of us had a shot. Hope to get to hunt a lot more with him. He's getting hooked.

Congrats on the new grand baby Jerry. The trip sounded like fun too. ;-)

I'm sitting in the stand right now at my buddy's place. Much more deer sign here than at mine. They are about 40 miles apart give or take, apparently that's far enough to make a difference.

While pulling in the place I bumped 2 small bucks from the standing corn so that's a good sign. Hopefully there grand dad is up moving around in the next couple of hours.

Saw 6 deer total, 3 does and 3 small bucks. Only one buck was close, I seem to be a dink magnet so far this year. I hung cameras before I climbed in the stand, looking forward to seeing what is on that farm.

ended up hunting this past weekend and saw nothing. It was a complete 180 from opening day! We had a full moon, lots of rain, and high winds so im thinking that played a huge factor in this past weekends hunt. Back at it Friday! Ill be filming my dad as well so hopefully he can smack down a nice doe or maybe a buck!

Last night my buddy hunted at his place and saw a "giant" from about 250 yards away. He was in the field with another buck that was around 120" the giant and towered over him. He is putting him north of 150" for sure.

So with that said how have you guys approached when you have a target deer that is showing himself during daylight? We were just debating if we give him space until closer to the rut or do we try to move in and get aggressive with hunting him since he is showing himself in daylight? I'd love to hear your opinions!

By the way I decided not to go last night, this buck walked right past the stand I would have sat based on the wind we had. That will teach me for being a good father... :p

I would go after him, but only if the conditions are perfect. You know where he beds?

No idea where he is bedding, that's part of the reason I want to get out there and hunt him so we can figure out if he has a pattern at all. Last night was the first time he was seen. My buddy is comparing him to this buck that we had on that farm 3 years ago.

I saw him once on the hoof around the first of November, I was sitting in the woods about 50 yards on a rub line/trail thinking I might be able to catch him on the way to the field before dark. He came into the field from another direction with 5 does in tow, he ended up getting within 60 yards of me right on the edge of the timber and on the trail I was sitting but never closed the distance. Never saw him again. He stayed in his core area all year but he was nocturnal except for the rut.

Rifle season falls in the middle of the rut here in Nebraska and anything that has antler of any substance goes down. We have so many road hunters and trespassers there isn't anything we can do to keep decent deer alive year after year.

Think id be sitting in that stand the next time the wind is right. Go after him. No telling where he will be once the rut starts.

That's the plan, looks like Saturday afternoon things should be good if the forecast holds.
