I'm at deer camp as we speak. Heading out in the morning with the rifle. Hopefully I have a story for you guys and get one early to free me up for some archery yet this weekend.
Will be going out thiS evening. My neighbor saw one of my target bucks going right into an area which I have stands in so ill be trying to get him! He's probably 140 which is great for around here
Saw some good deer this morning. Three muleys I would have been happy to put a tag on with my rifle. Even had a small muley buck at 15 yards, if I was carrying my bow it would have been game over. I wasn't going to shoot him with my rifle though, but archery absolutely.
Missed a doe tonight, 15 yard shot broadside. Everything looked good and felt right. I have no idea what happened. All I know is I've missed a nice 8 pt and Doe and I'm starting to question why. I shoot perfect 3 inch groups out to 45 yards!!!! I dont know if its the angle from me being up 30' in my climber. What do you guys think?
Saw nothing tonight. Its getting to that point where deer anxiety is starting to set in. Reading too many posts about the rut going on and I've got tags burning up in my pocket. I need more blood on the knife!
4 small bucks today a pile of doe, but I won't pull the trigger on a doe unless it's last light or my buck tag is filled. Little more than a week to go here. It's heating up. Rob's still got a shooter or two at his place, I'm told I'll be there one of the nights this week. Ben.....out.
Shooting thunderheads. Could be buck fever, I don't know. All I know is everything seemed right. There is a chance it shot high, it's not very clear to me right now. IT WAS SOO CLOSE, I still am in shock that I missed. The last time it was darker and hard to see my pins. This time it was sunset with plenty of light, I had time. No rush. Got my pin on her and BOOM she ran 80 yards and actually stopped next to a birch tree. I could barely see her cause her tail and the birch kinda blended, Soon enough it was dark and I got down. NO blood, Clean arrow, birch tree had no deer by it. Not at all what I thought was gunna happen when I came down. I'd bet my life she was down. Good thing I didn't.
Well boys, rifle hunt over. This guy was rutting hard and the hunt was on public land. Ill throw up story later. Back at it with the bow!
Dude! That's a cool rack! Nice big bodied deer. Good work. Now just do that with a bow. lol Like I should talk....
He did have a gnarly rack. His tines would make this unique curl right before splitting off. My personal best muley.
Thats one gnarly looking Muley Boof. I ran up to the farm for a quick afternoon sit after spending Friday and saturday working at my Dads auction. Jumped a forky on the way in and saw one deer trotting across a hillside while on stand. That was it. I'm headed back Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on work and hunting thru the weekend. Checked 2 cameras and had my monster "Bakers Dozen" on video at a big rub tree. The next week or so should be prime time. The weather won't be too bad, but I wish it was a little colder. Lows in the 30's and highs in the 50's and 60's for the rest of this week.
My mock was torn up today. I creamed it with the stinky and will be there tomorrow night, work willing.
Here is the story to that buck: http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?40929-Public-Land-Rifle-Buck&p=569308#post569308 It is a little long, sorry about that!
Well I pulled out my best stand and it has produced! Saw my target buck this a.m along with several others decent bucks and a lot of does. Now I'm back in the same spot and already had a spike and doe walk by
Professors decided to gang up on me for the best week of hunting of the year. Doesnt look like I will get many weekday sits anytime soon as the homework/tests are piling up. The weekend isnt too far away though, that is when I will be hitting it hard.
