Another fruitless morning, I saw nothing. Not sure what Ill do about the rest of the weekend, my frustration is pretty high right now. Next weekend Ill be leaving the bow at home as I have a rifle tag that opens. No worries, it is only open for one weekend and after that I will be back at it with the bow.

I think Ill give tomorrow morning another go, but tonight I need to cool down.

Well, the bad news is everything so far. I just plain havent been seeing deer like I normally would.

The good news is I got permission to hunt some new stuff where I KNOW there is deer. I will only have a couple days to scout before I hang a stand. I guess better late than never. This is officially my Plan D. Ive never had to dig this deep to find deer before but am confident I have got something good with this new spot. Trail camera is going up there Monday, we'll see what happens.

    My ground: blue
    Public ground: red
    Known bedding areas: pink
    Known travel areas: white
    Potential treestand locations: green

So this isnt very big stuff I have access to. This is two big shelter belts that either have deer bedded in them, or get deer that pass in front of them. Both areas are over cut corn fields, so the feeding traffic is still really good. I think this might give me my first opportunity to try a decoy, as it can be seen for a long ways. Basically, I need to decide If I will put a stand in the bedding area or not. I dont think I will, as I probably cant afford to push the deer out this late in the season. On Tuesday I will be hanging stands and maybe even do a sit that night.

The public is hunted really hard to the south. That big island is really thick so the deer can hide, but they feel the pressure from duck and archery hunters. Hunting those deer in the south field may be a lost cause, because those deer are only in the open an hour before and an hour after sunlight.

The reason I am pretty familiar without scouting this stuff is because I work that the fish hatchery next door. Those perfectly square ponds you see are our earth ponds, so I spend a lot of time out there and know their habits for the most part.

Whoa! Totally different landscape from what I hunt. I hunt big woods! Still though I see a double inside corner! I just read in a book that these are a "Dynamite hot spot". Good luck Capture3_zps3d6f03b2.jpg

Im really digging that corner, too. Like I said, this is Plan D.

Also, this is the only stuff I can hunt during the week. I go to college about an hour from my hometown where all my go to stuff is. When you are a punk college kid in a college town, it is hard to get permission. So actually getting ground to hunt around where I go to school is a big deal, Ill take what I can get!

I actually went 0-11 in getting permission before getting two "yes's" to hunt this stuff. (the two fields are owned by different people)

I put the horns together yesterday morning and a 2year old 4x4 came in. I saw a 145,130,120 all between 11am and 2:30pm. It looks like the bigger bucks are moving in the middle of the day with this moon.

Have you got much scraping and rubbing in your area with all the EHD findings?

Same here on Fri.&Sat. Seen the larger bucks cruising between 9:00am - 11:30am. Smaller bucks right at dark acting skiddish as all hell. I believe total chaos about to kick off here in a few days. Larger bucks were still traveling together also, rubbing trees constanly passing through. Still nothing over a 130 or 135 seen yet.

No rubs and scrapes where my primary hunting spots are. Where I posted the picture of the "Plan D" there is a lot of activity. We will see how promising it is this week.
