I'm Shane Self and I live in Glen Carbon, IL 20 miles east of St. Louis, MO. I'll be hunting in the Shoal creek bottoms here in Bond County, IL. Were there were two nice bucks shot last year a 175, and a 165 next to my 60 acre property. I’ve been bow hunting since I was 16; however, I’ve been deer hunting since I was 12. I took a break from bow hunting for a few years to concentrate on tuning in my drinking skills. I lost all of my hunting grounds in IL when I moved out to Kansas City for 9 years and returned to IL in 2008, I had only 20 acres of over hunted pasture to hunt, until last year when a buddy of mine inherited about 60 acres from his Grandpa. So, this will be my 2nd year hunting that thick mess of bottom timber. I’m excited to be part of a hunting team. Does anyone else hunt in IL? I suggest Team Thunder as our official name if no one else is using thunder as their name.
I lived about the same distance from St Louis just going west instead. Never hunted Illinois but use to to a lot in Waynesville just off the edge of Ft Leonard Wood on my grandpa's farm.
I'm Sean and I registered with my first name rather than my screen name..I dont think it'll be an issue. I'm going to be hunting for the most part in Fort Polk Louisiana. My hunting season wont begin untill mid to late october due to current deployment. I did some good scouting there last year and was able to take a doe on the first and only day I could Bow hunt. I know I have bucks moving in some of the area I've scouted as well. Anyway can't speak much for the size of the racks down there but I'll still be happy as hell if I can get on one. I'm from Wisconsin and will be able to hunt two or three days there while I visit my family over Christmas. I've Been talking to my Father and he has some decent places picked out up there so it is possible that he puts me on one in late season. I'm not going to be picky though if its a doe I'm taking it and after that I'll hold out for a buck regaurdless of antler size I'm taking the first one that I see. I wish you guys the best of luck this season and hopefully we can all rack up some decent deer.
I hunted Truman lake for a couple of years while living in KC. There were a lot of big deer there. I shoot a nice 13 pointer just outside one of the campgrounds, but it was with a shot gun and slug.
Not a prob Sean. Done a few trips to JRTC and got to say pretty nice hunting areas out there. Just keep the head down and make it back in one piece.
Welcome Sean, I don't blame you for shooting an any size buck. before I had a solid place to hunt i would shot smaller bucks too, just because I knew I would probably not be hunting there long enought to either wait for a big to come by or for a smaller buck to grow into a bigger buck. Moreover, good luck this year and hopefully you get a shot at a nice buck in LA and WI.
Hey guys, Bryan here. I'll be hunting PA and MD. I've got some good bucks on camera in both states so hopefully I can put something together to get some points on the board. I'm usually good for a buck and a doe every contest, but last year I had my worst season hunting in years and only got one doe on the ground and due to only having one picture of it could not enter it. So, I figure I'm due to make up for that. I've also got a pretty good track record on coming up with team names. Last year we were Dead Deer Crossing. My suggestion for this year is Team HHH (Huge Horn Hunters). Thoughts?
Hey guys I'm Justin, I live in downeast Maine where the deer hunting is awful! I've held off for a nice buck the last 3 years and have had no success due to rifle hunters shooting the bucks off of an archery only zone. I'll do my best to arrow a nice buck this year but I might not be able to hold off for the fourth year. Either way I'll take a deer so I won't be too much of a burden. Good luck! Put down some big ones!
I'll furnish the Mascot for our team, since I am VP of Graphic design at an outdoor apparel company. Perhaps, I look into possible get us a tribaloutdoors team shirts with our logo and user names on them. do you all like this shirt?
I would buy and wear that shirt.... On a different note, Have any of you done this before and how many members of the teams are "no shows"?
