Here's a couple other nice ones for my grandson. He calls them the big 10 and the wide 8. I call them little 10 and short tine 8.
Leaving at 7am to head up to the hunting land. Been 1 month since i've checked cams so stay tuned. Its like Christmas morning when I get to check cams
I'll be heading down to the farm in Kentucky today. Hopefully there will be a couple nice ones on the cams. I'll be down there hunting in 9 days!!!!!
Getting a late start after finding out the trees were coming down on the farm I've hunted for 7 years. Scrambled to find another spot and ended up joining a local hunting club with 2,200 acres. Seems like most of the members are more focused on shooting guns at the range and not much hunting. I got out today and scouted a few different spots that looked good on the maps. I hung a few cams and trimmed a few lanes. I didn't see any other stands or trail cameras so I hope I'm alone. Fingers crossed.
Well got my ladder stand hung for a quick easy spot to hunt on those days I don't feel like going with my climber or lone wolf and sticks. Refreshed my buck fever scrape that turned into a community scrape from last season. I've had bucks hitting it since July so a good refresh should really get it going in the next month and into October. I got about 7-10 little bucks but nothing I would consider a shooter out of those. This is the best one out of this card pull. More than likely i'll never see this guy as he's on a really big piece of property and not sure how often i'll hunt it.
Sucks about the trees coming down. Is there any way to use that to your advantage? It should create some funnels or pinch points, but I don't know the property nor the extent or timing of the logging. Glad you had a plan B tho. Sent from my SM-G935V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
It looks like I might get rained out of work on Tuesday, so my plan is to get a couple stands moved and pop up a blind. Then I can stay out of my main property until season opens on the 30th. I'm trying to do a better job this year of only hunting the outskirts and leaving the interior woodlot for the rut.
Cams on the farm in Kentucky have a number of does and fawns. Only saw 2 bucks so far nothing worth shooting though. My friend had people working up in that area though these past couple weeks and they are leaving on Monday. I'm hoping they will really start showing up then. Just dumped more corn, apples, B&J minerals, and some sugar beet crush powder. I'll check cams when I come back down on labor day and decide which stand to hunt mornings/evenings. Right now we only have 2 stands up to choose from so decision shouldn't be too difficult.
I'll just have to wait and see just how much of the trees come down. It's 125 acres but most is tillable ground. All in beans right now. I'm guessing they won't cut anything until after the crops are out at least. So I've prepped a few trees to use my climber and not risk losing a lock on. It should an interesting year to say the least. I can say that I'm excited to chase some new deer on new property.
@BearMethod1976 That does sound interesting, and it sounds like you have it handled at least. I used to hunt a horse farm that was 180 acres mostly wooded. They logged off the upper part of the property one year, and it completely changed up the way I hunted the place and how the deer moved on it. It was a pain at first, but it actually improved hunting. I hope the new property pans out for you too.
I will be going elk hunting in a little over a week to the Gila area of New Mexico. will hunt trough the 14th. Then a two week wait for our local bow season to open up. Looks like it gonna be a good year for horns. Haven't captured shot of anything on camera too big yet but looking at the growth of some of the two and three year old, I am optimistic.
I'll be on stand September 4th. Hoping for at least 50 as well and who knows what else might come by!!!!!
Sep. 16 is going to be the first day I can get a chance to hunt; season opens on a friday, and I gotta work. Long range forecast looks to be dry with a high of 77 degrees, and I have hunted on much warmer days. I still don't know if I will actually try it on the 16th honestly.
I almost went with Browning and might next purchase. Good stuff? Sent from my SM-G935V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Thanks headstrong. I just purchased a command ops and could not have been more disappointed with the first pull. Bad daytime pics. Sent from my XT1254 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
