Decided to practice hanging the new lone wolf and sitting in it for a bit. Talk about a different world. Going from a climber to this is crazy. Pretty much feel like a bird on a perch. Sent from my SM-G935V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Thanks. I'm a little stressed that's for sure. I loved that bow. Killed a lot of deer with it. Maybe I'll keep it and fix it for a back up bow.
I blew it on a stalk of a great 9 pt this morning. I was playing the role of spotter in the valley on a secondary escape route. A young 6 pt picked out my buddy on his approach and off they went. The biggest buck came walking quickly over a wash out. But rather than take the well worn trail through the brush that I was positioned to shoot, he hung about 70 yrds above the brush. As he did, he disappeared into a second wash out that I had not seen from my position. We didn't push them in hopes of seeing them again tonight. Great area. 2 bachelor groups still working the area with 3.5 days to go. Feeling good about my chances.
I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Z3 today. Bow should be set up by the weekend. Can't wait to get it dialed in.
Went an tried sitting in the stands again. Wind kept shifting directions and was blowing hard called it quits early. Did go find a couple of spots to check out next summer an possibly move a cam to that area. Good news is that we are supposed to get snow up high in the mountains an rain in the valley. Who knows what will come through the next couple of days. Gonna dress warm an hope for the best. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Took down 2 stands in the morning after work. Slept a few hours, then one of the stands I took down, I moved and set up in a different spot. Here's a couple pics on a new 9 pointer that started coming in.
Put another stalk on the 9 ptr last night. I used a deep ditch to move to three different positions trying to get ahead of him, but ran out of cover at 85 yrds. I had expected him to use the edges similar to back home, but he was more than happy to graze right down the middle of a large field.
Well, men. Tomorrow is the opener in good ole MO. I am looking at the weather and it is going to be warm with highs near 87 Friday and Sat. Sunday looks fantastic though; a little cooler and barometer is going up past 30 and the wind is good for my #1 stand in the core area. I think Sunday might be the best day. I'll probably update the live from the stand thread while I'm at it. Y'all stay safe and best of luck!
Good luck Eric! Who else is opening up this weekend? It will be the first WI opener I have missed in over 15 yrs...
Trying something a little different tonight. I need to figure out how that buck got from his bedding to the field behind me...so it is an observation night. There are good trails leading to a field on either side at 35 yrds...so I guess there is a chance, but the expectation is data gathering. It is about 20 deg cooler today with rain coming tonight, so hopefully they flock in by the groves.
Nothing but does on my camera, but I don't mind since there were hardly any there last year. Crazy thing is I found buck tracks in front of my ladder stand and was really surprised. Of course that could be at night. Corn on that lease instead of beans has completely changed the deer activity there. Sent from my SM-G935V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
